Please keep in mind that the information you are reading is coming from the shooter girl selling tactics in BC, Canada. Every state or province may have their own rules and regulations as to what the liquor control board expects your establishment to follow.

Our liquor laws in B.C. have changed over the last five years or so. When I started out in this industry over 20 years ago, a shot girl was expected to load her tray full of shots and go out onto the floor and sell them. It was easier to sell shots back then because she would walk up to a table of customers with her colourful array of shooters and customers would be tempted to buy from her. Nowadays, the shot girl walks around with her empty tray, schmoozing and trying to persuade customers to order shots. When the order is placed she will go to the bar and pick them up. So, basically it’s against the law in B.C. for the shot girl to walk around with unsold product on her tray.

Regardless of whether you carry shots on your tray to sell instantly or not, I have many helpful tips in the upcoming chapters which will help you sell your product and put lots of money into your pockets.

The shooter girl (also known as shot girl) is the girl who attracts attention and wanders around the room selling shooters. You’ll find her working in dance clubs, nightclubs and show lounges (strip clubs). She’s the eye candy in the room so she has to be good looking and have some sex appeal. She must be fun, energetic and have a great personality since she will be connecting with people. The shot girl is the party so she has to have excellent energy because customers will feed off it. She must always be the friendliest girl in the room and be very approachable.

The shooter girl provides great customer relations by schmoozing with patrons and working them to loosen their purse strings. Since she’s the girl who keeps the guys in the room spending money on shots, some guys have a fantasy that there might be a chance she will go home with them. This is a job which requires her to do some light flirting and work the clientele if she wants to sell shots and make some great tips. For men with limited social skills, the attention from a shot girl may be the closest thing they get most days to being near to and talking with a beautiful woman.

The shooter girl also has to be responsible since customers will expect her to drink with them. She has to watch her alcohol intake and not act like a lush since she’s responsible for her tray of product and her money.

Advantages of Being a Shot Girl

A shot girl can make killer amounts of money if she’s good at this job. In a small amount of time, she can make hundreds of tax-free dollars

Usually, she is paid on a commission basis which is advantageous if she works in a busy, money-making bar

A shot girl is usually only expected to pick up her empty shooter glasses, not empty bottles and glassware

Depending on the establishment, SOMETIMES the shot girl is not expected to ID customers since that’s the server’s, bartender’s or doorman’s job

When it’s slow, she is encouraged to sit down and hang out with customers

The shot girl is expected to dress up and look pretty

Disadvantages of Being a Shot Girl

The shot girl will be stared at, hit on, eye-balled and propositioned. There will be days when she won’t be in the mood for it

Not very often, but the shot girl must deal with jealous female customers

Depending on the bar and the rowdy clientele, drunk guys (and some girls) may grab or try to grab a quick feel

Drunk idiots try grabbing free shots or money off the shot girl’s tray

The shot girl is usually dressed pretty revealing which can be pretty uncomfortable

Depending on the establishment, she usually doesn’t make an hourly wage. If the bar is dead, she makes no money, unlike the server who will serve drinks, food and make an hourly wage

The shot girl can’t do this job forever. There is always the new, young, hot girl ready to take her job

Customers expect the shot girl to party and drink with only them. Customers don’t realize the shot girl is doing a job and has many customers to serve

She may be expected to work New years, Christmas and other busy, money-making holidays

Most guys think that the shot girl is single and available. They think that just because she works at a club half naked, she’s looking for someone to hook up and go home with

It’s easy for her to get roped into the party lifestyle

Customers will try to be funny and say, It’s my birthday. Do I get a free birthday shot? or Are shots free? which can get tiring for the shot girl to hear all night

She can feel restless if nobody wants to buy shots after she’s walked the room a few times. Sometimes she ends up with a crowd who wants to sip on their drinks and are not in the mood to party. If she’s not pushy enough, she won’t make any money

Shot Girl Dress Code

When I got hired to sell shooters over 20 years ago, it was mandatory I wear a swim suit. Nowadays most shooter girls you see working in a club are dressed in club wear and the ones who are making really good tips are dressed more revealing, sometimes even wearing lingerie. The more skin you show, the more money you make and that’s a fact; sex sells.

Make sure your clothes match the theme of the establishment. Ex: If you work at a country bar, you don’t want to show up in leathers or a Daisy Duke outfit. If you’re not sure what to wear, check out what the other shot girls are wearing at the club you get hired at and follow their lead (but take it one step further so you stand out).

The shot girl must keep herself in shape

She must always wear sexy clothes and have her hair and makeup done

The shot girl must always look, dress and act sexy

She must act classy. She shouldn’t talk about her own problems or talk like a truck driver. Customers are drinking to forget their own problem so they don’t want to be reminded of someone else’s

If the shot girl has some spare time, it would be advantageous for her to help out the busy servers by picking up empties. In turn, the servers will give her the heads up on the big tippers and big spenders

Smile, smile, smile and smile some more. She can never smile enough

When the shot girl has some down time or the shot sales slow down, she should work on gaining regulars.

Shooter Girl Don’ts

Don’t tell customers your problems. You are there to help customers have fun, sell your product and not depress them

Don’t sit on guys’ laps, let them grope or touch you. Have some self-respect. You’re not a hooker so act professional and be classy.

Don’t give out your phone number to everybody

Don’t ever take your eyes off your tray or money

Don’t get pie-eyed drunk. It’s illegal, unsafe and you can get fired since you’ll put the bar’s liquor license in jeopardy

Don’t hide in a corner and whine about customers not buying shots. If they can’t see you, they can’t buy them from you. Work the room

Don’t turn a blind eye if you think someone may be underage. Don’t expect a coworker to always be the one to ID customers; take responsibility since your job and the bar’s liquor license is on the line too

Don’t sit down and chat with customers when the room is busy. Keep moving and sell your product

Don’t get caught up in the party lifestyle. A shot girl needs to be certain that she can separate business from pleasure. If she gets the job, she should stay focused on the job.

How to Be a Successful Shooter Girl and Put Tons of Money in Your Pockets

If you think that you’ll sell lots of shots just because you’re pretty, you’re in for a big surprise. To be a money-making shooter girl, you have to have a lot more than just good looks. You need to be friendly, outgoing, and energetic. You have to promote the bar, work the room and party with the crowd. Remember, you are the fantasy girl so you want to talk, walk and act sexy. This isn’t the time to talk like a truck driver, burp and talk about farting, no matter how funny it is.

Time is money.

The more you work the room, the more shots you’ll sell. The more you sell means you make more money for the bar and more tips for yourself.

You don’t want to spend the night flirting and chatting up one guy, especially if the room is busy. You want to always be on the move looking out for the stags, stagettes, birthday parties, divorce parties and anything else people are out to celebrate. People who are out to celebrate something special usually means that they want to take it a step further and buy shots. Look out for new customers coming into the bar, whooting and hollering which usually means they are ready to party and part with their hard earned money and you will be there to take it!

If the energy in the room is mellow with a quiet crowd, use the time to sit with a group and strike up a conversation. You have to be aggressive in selling your shooters. If customer after customer tells you they aren’t interested, you will have to be a little pushier.

Communicate with the servers and see if there are any celebrations in the room that you are unaware of. Usually, these people are out to party and spend large amounts of money.

If the room is hopping and you’re selling a lot of shots, take advantage of this time, stay on your feet and go! If your regulars want you to sit and chat, explain to them you’re busy right now and you have shooters to sell. You’ll be back to hang out and chat when the crowd slows down. You don’t want
