DECORATIVE LAMPSHADES
CURRENT tastes and styles appear to favour something distinctively decorative in lampshades and pleated, tubular, pie-frill, fluted, twisted-pleated, and other contemporary and stylish types of shades certainly give added pleasure to the handicraft worker and help to brighten up the surroundings. In the following pages, some of these attractive shapes are illustrated and described and the worker should be able to follow the diagrams quite easily in making up these shades.
Vellums, sheepskin parchment, oiled parchment, buckram, thick patterned papers, Ivory Board and cartridge papers are among the most suitable types of material for lampshades. Any stiff translucent material is suitable, preferably one that is easily pleated or folded.
Here is how a cylinder lamp is made up in sheepskin cloud parchment. It is quite plain, but could be decorated with a fringe if desired.
Two lampshade frame rings of the same diameter are required for this particular kind of shade. The example shown is made up from two 4-inch rings, one for the top and one for the bottom. The bottom ring will require a gimbal fitting, while the top ring must be bound round with the usual bias binding and the
