About this ebook

Sabrina Tucker always gets

what she wants…

That is, until she meet’s Sam Michaels.

Sabrina, not used to being told no,

will stop at nothing to claim Sam.

Sam, never having been pursued so ruthlessly,

will do anything to keep her away.

Sam’s family has tried for years to get him to settle down.

They say they don’t understand why he guards his heart.

Why should he wear his heart on his sleeve?

They know the reason, hell everyone knows.

Why give your heart to someone only to have it ripped out?

Why open yourself to that kind of pain?

That kind of hell?

Why? Because his brothers did?

He has been there, done that and it was all taken from him in a single night.

No one should ever have to feel that kind of pain.

That kind of loss.

He swore that it would never happen to him again.

Until he meets Sabrina…

In 1999, she introduced the world to her first born, Brandi, and again in 2000, Sarah. Today, when she is not doing what she loves, writing, she spends time with her beautiful family and the addition of two dogs named Izzy and Herly. Prologue

Ashley, come on, I say taking her hand in mine, Your father will kill me if I don’t have you home on time.

She shakes her head and laughs. Sam, its prom, she says following me out of the school and we dash through the rain, Dad won’t kill you.

Still, I say opening the door of my truck and helping her in, I don’t want to risk screwing up our weekend plans. She laughs again as I close the door and run to the other side of my beat up truck.

Leaving the parking lot, I take a corner a little fast for the weather conditions turning onto the gravel road to her house and press the gas pedal further to the floor. Ashley laughs, pats my leg, and turns on the radio. Forever Love by Reba McEntire fills the cab and she starts to sing.

I glance at her and smile, thinking about our weekend and my plans to ask her to marry me. The joy on her face vanishes as she frowns. Sam, look out, she screams and places her hands on the dash.

I quickly turn back, thinking she saw a deer cross the road and faintly see a tractor through the pouring rain backing out onto the gravel road.

I swerve to miss it when the tires lose traction and I feel the rear end shift. We hit the deep ditch head on and it catapults the truck into a somersault and Ashley screams.

The truck rights itself, and I hear glass shattering and Ashley’s cries are now silent as the truck slams into what I think is a tree. The truck rocks and then comes to a standstill.

I lay there as pain shoots through my body. I want to scream for her, but I can’t find my voice. Oddly, the dash lights and radio continue to work and all I can do is lay there, listening to the rain fall around me and Ashley’s favorite song still playing...

    Nights Are the Worst

    Fourteen Years Later- Present Day

I wake with a start. Sweat pours from my body and I’m shaking. The dreams are always the same, that same damn song that Ashley loved so much, the rain, the crunch of the wet gravel beneath tires, the sounds of metal bending echoing off the inside of the truck cab, and the sound of glass shattering. Some nights I get a reprieve and
