About this ebook

The best of bytestories (Volume I) contains a collection of funny, awkward, uplifting and/or demoralizing true stories.

All are based on real life events which have occurred across the globe with the contributors hailing from all walks of life. You will read stories shared by comedians, school teachers, authors, musicians, and even an ex-US Navy captain. Some of the short stories represent unforgettable chapters of their lives - while other represent moments they'd like to forget.

"However, things started getting a little strange when they also got in their cars and started driving behind us. Paranoia kicked in and I sped up believing that they could be criminals looking to carjack us. Then they sped up and started tailing us. "What's going on?!?" we both thought. Next, we heard a couple of gun shots..."
- Getting Shot at in Brazil

"On my first day of high school in 1968 I met a short, long haired kid who would go on to be one of Prahran High Schools most famous students."
- I managed the bass player in AC/DC. Pity he wasn't in the band at the time...

"Just what every 4th birthday party needs. Explosions and fear."
- You Had Just One Job

The stories were originally submitted to bytestories.com which is a website dedicated to sharing short stories that come to a maximum of 1500 characters (approximately 250 - 300 words). The aim behind the site is to create a “digital campfire” where people from all parts of the globe could sit around a share an entertaining yarn.

As we wander through life, we're all witnesses in some pretty interesting "scenes". The overall aim of bytestories is to allow you to record these moments to ensure that they do not slip into the ether. We'd also like to entertain / inspire / teach you by sharing others' experiences as well. While on bytestories, we’re sure you’ll find plenty of ways to entertain yourself as you slip into the shoes of others. Why is it called bytestories? This is a place for "byte-sized" stories. There is a 1500 character (about 200-250 words) limit in place for two main reasons. We want you to know that "War and Peace" is not required to leave your mark. As they say, time is money so we also want your readers to gain their insight in a timely fashion. This has been created with you in mind. Whether you're sharing something or checking out the stories, we want to look after you! Contributors will be able to share their stories after a couple of clicks and a few nicely-crafted keystrokes - and then proudly show them off in a matter of moments! Readers will be able to read their friend’s stories as well as browse through the best-of-the-best-of-the-best stories.
