Chapter One

Susie was sitting at her desk, staring at the neighbor’s garage door. She was in the process of doing her homework but how could Mrs. North expect her to write an essay for homework about a boge tree when she didn’t even know what such a tree looked like. She had never even heard of it before.

I’ve never even seen such a tree before, where do I begin to look? Susie throws her arms up in the air in a hopeless gesture.

That really sucks!

There was only one day left before she had to hand in the essay, and she had all the other homework to do as well. It was hard to concentrate because botany certainly wasn’t

Her favorite subject. She let her finger run through her ginger hair but her brain was blank.

It was a dark and rainy day outside and not very inspiring to do research in. So she continued to sit there staring at the garage door and let her mind drift away. She just sat there for a while and must have drifted into some sort kind of daydream, because what happened next was unbelievable.

It was as if she had drifted into another world and the old garage door across the road had turned into a golden beaming light. It began to glow as brightly as the Sun.

Oh no, Susie whispered, I must be dreaming, but it seems so real, all those beautiful colors. It is like the colors of the rainbow. No, it is just like a crystal, she called out.

She felt drawn towards the colors shining through the door and the bright golden light was now showering down on her.
