What happens when you take three men in their thirties and turn them loose together. The wives have gone on a get-a-way vacation and left their husbands to fend for themselves. Can these grown "boys" behave and not get themselves into trouble?
Lorne is a mechanic by trade, and a natural leader; his friends and family enjoy his ability to make good decisions.
Matt is unmarried, a manager of a men's clothing store, a city type person; his type of adventure is a trip across the city to a favourite restaurant/ His mode of travel would be taxi, bus or car, but hardly ever walking.
The one whose name is never mentioned in this book, is a family man who works as a computer teck. His calmness, keen sense for detail, and clear thinking is a asset at his work and to his family.
Follow them as they go on their outing which leads to an ordeal of survival in the bush. Sense the panic when their only transportation becomes useless.
Feel the cold as they trek on, and the fear as they encounter wild animals.
Feel the panic as a fast moving stream, and a muddy slough try to claim them. Feel the encouragement as they muster all their wits, to survive, and. rally with them as they work their way back to civilization.
Can Lorne's leadership remain true in this harsh situations, if he should fail would their situation become dire.?

It all came together on Saturday; the three wives have left for their annual girl get-a-way vacation. They will be gone for the next seven days. How they spend their time, I have no idea, but they come back relaxed, and happy. That's a good thing, and all the kids are left with the grandparents. That leaves Matt, Lorne, and I, to fend for ourselves for the next seven days.
We all managed to think ahead, and to get a week off from work at the same time, we figured if the women were taking a week off, we would too. We are all in our early thirties, so we can look after ourselves quite well thank you.
We have decided to make use of this time as best as we can, we are determined to use this holiday to relieve work stress, to get our minds and bodies in top shape, before the women return.
The first day we congregate early at my place, we sit around drink beer, and eat delivered pizza.
There is a basketball net up against the shed and we take turns trying for the best shot, we are all pretty rusty and there are more misses than baskets.
We try kicking around a soccer ball that ends up more times on the road, with one of us chasing after it.
By the end of the day we get quite bored. We had talked ourselves out, basically run out of words, and jokes, we weren't like the women who have hundreds, maybe thousands of words to share.
All in all we are bonding, getting to know each other better. We talk about the good and bad of each others jobs. We cover relationships, and offer solutions where we can. When we discuss teenage problems; that really stumps us, and no one seems to have any real answers in that area. We are here for each other; we trust and are open to each other.
Finally Lorne, who had his mind somewhere else for the last half hour, speaks up. I've been thinking about a place where my Dad use to work as a logger, He has been gone a number of years, so I can't ask him for any details, but I still have the map he drew by hand.
Matt becomes curious, and says, I remember you talking about your Dad, he used to work, what, thirty miles up in the bush somewhere, but that was many years ago.
I think about what they were saying and ask, What have you got in mind Lorne?
Lorne set down the empty beer bottle in his hand, and starts to explain, I still have my Dad's old rifle, why don't we take a drive, and look over the area. That sure would beat sitting around. It would just be a day trip so we wouldn't have to take sleeping bags, tents or anything. We will only have to dress warmly, and bring along a light lunch.
I pass the information through my brain, and say, Lorne none of us are hunters, we don't even have hunting licenses.
I think to myself; Our Dad's who were hunters have passed on to new hunting grounds.
Lorne smiles, he has already thought this out and explains, Like I said it is about thirty miles into nowhere, not another soul around for miles. There won't be any hunters or forestry people around to bother us, nobody would use that old road any longer, and it's probably mostly grown over. We would have the entire area to ourselves, away from cement city, to the open skies. We could use my four wheel drive truck, so no problem there. I could bring my rifle along. We could do a bit of hiking, sight seeing, and do some target shooting.
Matt gets all excited, and brightens up, "I have an old rifle that use to belong to my Father, and it had been in my mother's basement for years. Finally my mother did not want it in the house any longer, and asked if I wanted it, or she was going to get rid of it, so I went over and got it,
