    The Weeping of the Angels

    – A Steve in Minecraft Adventure –

Steve slouched at the sink, arms up to his elbows in a pile of dirty dishes and food scraps, tossing his head every few minutes to shake the hair out of his eyes.  Sure, it was an unruly mop, but Steve liked the wildness of his shaggy brown hair.  With the exception of the untamed beast growing from his head, Steve was just an ordinary eleven year old boy who liked to play Minecraft and hated doing chores.  Steve’s Mom made him do a lot of chores. In fact, he thought his mom gave him too many chores. Steve didn’t know a single kid in his class who did more chores than he did.  Although, when he came to think about it, Steve had never asked.  If Steve had any choice in the matter at all, he wouldn’t be doing the dishes.  He would be playing Minecraft.

As his hand swirled the soapy water around a plate, Steve thought about how close he was to putting the final bricks on the super awesome mansion he’d been building.   It had taken him months to harvest all the materials and layout all the rooms, trap doors, and dungeon levels.   If he got done in time, he might just finish it tonight!  He couldn’t wait to sit back and enjoy his work. Soon, the wall would keep the zombies, skeletons and spiders out.   They could scuttle around as much as they pleased, but he would be safe.  Steve wouldn’t have to worry about night time anymore, he could focus on building even more awesome things.  With a start, Steve realized that he’d been scrubbing the same plate for quite some time.   He blinked, and shook his head, scattering his block dreams, then picked up another plate.  It didn’t take long to finish the rest of the dishes, but it felt like a lifetime to Steve.  Each second that passed was another moment he lost building his mansion.

Setting aside the last plate, but forgetting a dirty fork at the bottom of the sink, Steve raced to his room in his excitement.  As soon as his eyes hit the computer screen he felt a rush of anticipation, like that moment you peel open a candy bar and smell the chocolate.  There was nothing that could stand in his way now!  Pulling up his chair, Steve couldn’t wait to return to his mission.  He was building the most fortified, super-mansion that the world had ever seen.  As he sat down at his desk, Steve could feel his hands getting ready to take their positions, as if pulled in place by magnets.
