This is one of my most favorite times of the year. First there is Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then there is Christmas, which I don't really care for, and then New Year's. Maybe the new year will be better than this past year. I guess I can only hope, Margaret thought out loud.

"Now, what should I be for Halloween? A princess? No. A ghost... goblin... maybe a skeleton... huff... I don't know. I've got so many things to do, I certainly don't need to be worried about what to wear."

Margaret wandered around the house. She put the pillows in place on the couch. She dusted the end table. She replaced the bulb in the lamp. She continued cleaning and organizing the house. It was something she often did to keep her mind occupied.

Halloween was a just over a week away. Margaret's brother, Peter, had been sick for a few days. When Peter's teacher asked Margaret where he had been, she simply told him that he was sick. You know how he is, Margaret said as she brushed off the question. Margaret always kept up her facade of being a sweet, precious, older sister. To make herself look good she took work home for him; he did it, and she returned it the next day.

Tell your brother I hope he is feeling well soon. We miss him in class.

I will be sure to tell him. I would imagine he will be feeling better very soon. "That little snot nose is always sick, they should just send him away somewhere," Margaret thought to herself.

Thanks, Margaret. You better get to class; you don't want to be late. Run along.

"Yes, Miss Weaver, you stupid bitch," she muttered under her breath.

    What was that, Margaret?

Oh, nothing. I was just saying have a nice day.

    Oh, you too, dear.

Margaret sat in class that day, staring out the window, and not paying attention to the teacher. She couldn't help but think about Aedan, her dear friend Aedan.

A few weeks ago she had been out on the playground at school. As normal, she was keeping to herself. She had her head down, reading a book. Some of the boys were running around playing tag. One boy was running towards her, away from another boy, and she did not see him coming. When she looked up from her book, at the last second, it was too late. She did not have time to step out of the way and the boy, Aedan, ran right into her and knocked her to the ground.

    What the hell? she screamed.

Oh, sorry. We were just playing tag.

Sorry? Maybe you should watch where the heck you are going.

    Sorry, I didn't see you.

As she sat on the ground, Margaret reached down and put her hand on her stomach; something
