This is fun enough and I like that it doesn't really make clear if Olivia is a magic girl or if it's just that every kid gets wishes on their birthday, but it also takes its sweet time getting anywhere sometimes and also also you can't blame Robert Munsch for this but Emmett only wants to look at the page with the red truck, for minutes at a time, SIGH.

I just read this book to my daughter, and it is another cute Munsch story that I am happy to have in our library. His stories are silly and capture a child's perspective wonderfully well. The words have a great rhythm for being read aloud. The pictures are vibrant and match the silly mood of the story perfectly, and Olivia's special power of having all her birthday wises come true is just what every kid hopes for. Her final wish ends the story on a heart-warming note.

A favourite at our house. Olivia makes a birthday wish when she blows out her candles, and when her father says it won't come true, she says "Wait and see." When her wish comes true and causes some trouble, she has to have another cake to make another wish, and so it continues... Fun for the kids to take a deep breath and blow out the candles along with Olivia. And a delightful surprise ending. Michael Martchenko's illustrations add more jokes to the story, as usual.
