- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Emmett was a little indifferent, not to say sleepy, but I feel like most kids probably vibe to Bob Marley, even if I found the new lyrics kind of rhythmless and not compelling.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good book about a little girl who helps clean up her neighborhood and gets everyone to help clean up! Multicultural. Beautifully illustrated, A story of love and giving.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Personal Reaction - I think it is great that kids her age are willing to help out. What kid now days is going to see trash outside and pick it up. I think it is really cool that these kids were brought up right and are willing to make the neighborhood better. Summary - A little girl is helping her family and neighborhood to build a Park. When the little girl goes out to play with friends, they notice that someone has left garbage and debris all over the ground. The children then begin picking up the trash, and then asking that the adults and community members pitch in. The book has a very clear view on "green living", and each character takes part in building the park. A lot of neighbors help carry new plants while others wear shirts that say "Live Green". Classroom Extension Ideas - 1. Go outside and pick up trash. 2.Draw a picture of a recycling trash can.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A great story about a little girl getting the community evolved and spreading the love.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love Bob Marley, so when I found out that his daughter adapted a couple of books from his songs I just had to read them. I love this book because it teaches unity to kids. This little girl with the help of friends clean up the park they play at. I think this book does a good job of teaching that an equal respect and love for all kinds of people, we can make the world a better place. I also love that this book has so many different races portrayed.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Cedella Marley, the daughter of Bob Marley, did a wonderful job with taking the song lyrics and making it into a book that readers of any age can understand and relate. The illustrations show young children and adults of all races and backgrounds coming together to clean up a neighborhood park. I would read this book to all grade levels because I think it is a book that everyone can enjoy.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Great song, disappointing adaptation.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book for very young children is adapted by a daughter of Bob Marley from one of his most popular songs. The illustrations by Vanessa Brantley-Newton are bright and cheery and show a diverse collection of people celebrating the joys of cooperation and community. The song “One Love” expresses these sentiments, and was named "Song Of The Millennium" by the British Broadcasting Corporation...."One love, one heartLet's get together and feel all rightAs it was in the beginning (One love)So shall it be in the end (One heart)Alright, "Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right."In her notes at the end of the book, the author explains:"I think everybody has a ‘happy song’ and ‘One Love’ is mine. Yet, in many ways, it’s everybody’s happy song.... When my father sang ‘One Love,’ he felt it all the way – heart and soul, mind and body. He thought a world united by love was possible, and it is. All we’ve got to do, he said, is ‘Give a little, take a little.’ My father wanted people to embrace one another and take care of one another. That was and is the message of ‘One Love.’”
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Yes, it’s that song and it’s been reworked by that songwriter’s daughter (take a second look at her last name if you think I joke.) Like some of the more popular songs of the Beatles, this one is both trite and profound in its simplicity. The illustrations are brilliantly colored and that lifts the song a bit out of its jarring repetition.“One love, one heart, let’s get together and feel all right!”
