Foreword
I have always loved stories from my childhood. I still vividly remember the time when I go to my native town where we all as small children, relatives and friends used to gather for summer holidays. My grandmother, a cheerful lady with lots of wisdom used to make lovely food items and sit along with more than a dozen of us on the veranda. My grandmother always had a bunch of stories which she used to share with us. While telling the story she used to pass on the wonderful dishes she had made for us in turns. We used to go more for the food than listening to the stories. This was a ritual every summer we went. However, today I have forgotten about the food but stories are deeply embedded in my mind.
This session used to last for more than two or three hours. As I look back, I think that it was very smart of my grandmother to combine eating with learning. I owe a lot to her for whatever I am today, to those by gone summer days.
Human beings have two centers from which we
predominantly operate. One is the head center — logic centre or our cultivated centre. The other is the heart center — illogic, pure centre directly connected to God/
Universe. The stories are designed in such a way that it appeals to the logic and the essence reaches the heart where it is stored for eternity which is the seat of change and transformation. Hence for the tens of thousands 6
of years stories have played a vital role across all cultures and all continents. Even the modern science of NLP
(Neuro Linguistic Program) has acknowledged that stories are a powerful transformation tools. It is sad that stories are disappearing amidst clutter of T.V and other media. In the age of information this century will belong to families who are investing in learning. So please reconnect to the lost legacy — to the ancient art of story reading and always pass on the story around.
HeartSpeaks Series is truly a wonderful collection of stories that reaches the Heart and beyond. Happy reading and happy story telling.

Proverbs 3:5-6

1. Ability
here was a great lawyer in India. He was known to be Tone of the topmost men in his profession. So clients blindly trusted his ability.
Once it happened, he was a little absent minded, and he was fighting a case in the Privy Council. Two Indian States were fighting. He forgot — he had drunk too much in the previous night and had a hangover. When he reached the Privy Council, he even forgot for which side he was fighting. So he started arguing for the opposite party. He was a great lawyer so he argued well. His assistant became very upset and anxious — what should he do? He pulled the lawyer’s coat many times, but he wouldn’t listen; he was so engrossed in the debate.
When there was a break for tea, the assistant said, You have destroyed the case. You are arguing against yourself.
But the great lawyer didn’t say anything. When the court re-opened, he said, Up to now, I was giving you the arguments for the opposite party. Now I will give you the arguments for my party.
And he won the case.
It is ability that matters. Some people are born with such a knack that they will transform rock into gold if given a chance. Forget about given a chance — they will hunt for the chances and make their footings. They know how to find the gap in the market or in the world of opportunities. They can sell anything under the sun.
I am sure in our daily life we must have come across at least one such person. They don’t need an extra platform to start with and that is their ability. They don’t blame the situation because they know how to play their cards in every circumstance.
It is an ability to flow in all directions simultaneously and in
16
harmony with Existence/God. We become clear in life when we have the mirror-like ability to reflect reality as it is.
So let us introspect and see if we are using all our potentials and abilities to the fullest. Am I able to stand on my own from wherever I fall? We should be like the fallen seeds from the beak of a bird.
They sprout on their own and grow into huge trees giving shelter and shade to animals and birds.
Ability is the totality to accept life as it is and surrendering to Existence/God. And that is real ABILITY.
You are the only person on earth who can use your ability.
— Zig Ziglar
We rate ability in men by what they finish, not by what they attempt
— Anonymous
Put yourself in a state of mind where you say to yourself,
Here is an opportunity for you to celebrate like never before, my own power, my own ability to get myself to do whatever is necessary."
— Anthony Robbins

2. Acting
n the day of the casting call, many fine tall, young, men Oshowed up, but among them was a little Jewish man with a heavy Yiddish accent. The director picked him out immediately and asked, What do you want?
The man answered I vant to be an hector. I vant to play Hemlet!
Are you kidding or just crazy?
the director asked. You are only five feet tall and you have an accent so thick I could cut it with a knife. What can you possibly do?
The little Jew said, I vant to hect. Giff me a chance.
Finally the director agreed. Get up on the stage and try it.
The little Jew stepped out onto the stage. Somehow he looked much taller and full of energy. He began to speak with a booming voice and perfect king’s English: To be or not to be...
When he was finished, there was a hush. Everyone was amazed.
The director said, That’s incredible.
The other actors said, That’s wonderful.
The little Jew just shrugged his shoulders and said, Dat’s HECTING!
Real life is totally different from acting. Whatever happens in real life is real and it is spontaneous and natural. Many of us get thrilled with movies and dramas. We think whatever happens in the movie/
drama is real and will be repeated in real life too. We should never mix up real life and acting. Acting is not the real self of an individual.
The actor wears a persona or a mask which is removed once the show is over. One has to lose one’s identity in the acting — one has to forget everything and become that part while acting.
18
But real life is a single canvas where you need to perform in a succession of scenes. If you act it out well, you become successful or else you are discarded. There is no rehearsal — life itself is the rehearsal and performance. Decide how you want to make use of this golden opportunity called life.
Am I acting or living the real life? Am I prepared to perform without rehearsal? How have I performed in the succession of scenes on the canvas of life? Have I acted well? Am I acting well?
The most important thing in acting is honesty. If you can fake that, you've got it made.
— George Burns
Acting is a question of absorbing other people's personalities and adding some of your own experience.
— Jean-Paul Sartre

3. Action Oriented
Sufi merchant and two other saints went on a pilgrimage A to Mecca. They were passing through a village, it was the last phase of their journey. Their money was almost finished; just a little bit was left — hardly enough for a piece of bread which was not enough to appease the hunger of even one person.
Now, what to do? So everybody started boasting about himself that, I am more important to Existence/God, so my life has to be saved.
The first saint said, I have been fasting, I have been praying for so many years; nobody here present is more religious and holier than I am. And God wants me to be saved, so the bread has to be given to me.
The second saint said, "Yes, I know, you are a man of great austerity, but I am a great scholar. I have studied all the scriptures, my whole life I have devoted in the service of knowledge. And the world does not need people who fast. What can you do? —
you can only fast. You can fast in heaven! The world needs knowledge. The world is so ignorant that it cannot afford to lose me. The bread has to be given to me."
The Sufi merchant said, I am not an ascetic, so I cannot claim any self control. I am not a great knowledgeable person either, so I cannot claim that too. I am an ordinary sinner, and I have heard that God is always compassionate to sinners. So the bread belongs to me.
They could not come to any decision. Finally they decided that,
We all three should sleep without eating the bread, and let God decide. So whosoever is given the best dream by God, in the morning will be entitled to the bread.
In the morning the saint said, Nobody can compete with me anymore. Give me the bread — because in the dream I kissed God’s feet. That is the ultimate that one can hope — what greater experience can there be?
20
The scholar, the knowledgeable person laughed and said, That is nothing — because God hugged me and kissed me! You kissed his feet? He kissed ME and hugged me! Where is the bread? It belongs to me.
They looked at the Sufi merchant and asked,
