Introduction
I believe with all of my heart that we are living in the ‘last days.’ Jesus said that in the ‘last days’ many fearful and frightening things will come upon the earth. Paul said in the ‘last days’ there will be some very hard times.
"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come."
II Timothy 3:1
According to Scripture, I believe that we are in the beginning of those times. Today, the dominant mood of the hour is fear. Many live in fear and worry due to an uncertain economy, inflation, higher taxes, and high unemployment. This has resulted in much fraud, thefts, assaults, injuries, and even deaths. For each of us there will always be times of fear and worry that will attack our lives. God knew this before the foundation of the world.
Therefore, God sent us a Savior and Deliverer, the Lord Jesus Christ who has come and overcame the world, the flesh, the devil, death, hell, and the grave. Jesus died, but after three days and three nights, He arose with all power in His hands. He now sits at God’s right hand making intercession for us.
Because Jesus lives and watches over every believer, we need not fear or be afraid of any threat or danger. There is a Savior among us that loves us and cares for us. It’s great to know that God has given us His Word to help us deal with the issues of fear and worry. God’s Word is quick, powerful, and eternal. Faith in God’s Word is our shield that is designed to help us quench all the fiery darts of fear and worry.
"Above all, taking the shield of faith,
wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked."
Ephesians 6:16
If God’s Word is a daily part of our lives, reliance upon His Word can help us meet and beat any challenge that the enemy of our soul throws at us. In these troubling times, our faith must be at optimum levels of trust in God, if we are to live victorious lives of joy and peace.
We believers are in intense spiritual warfare with the forces of Satan. Casual Christianity of just going to church only on Sunday and reading the Bible every now and then will not work in these ‘last days.’ We must strive to walk close to God and in the power of His Holy Spirit if we are to stand victorious in our profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
We must also:
• Practice holiness at all times
• Forsake not the assembling of ourselves together with other believers
Practicing holiness gives us confidence to believe God for great things, and where there is the unity of believers, there is strength.
We face dangerous and frightening situations every day. We are often troubled and worried about many things that threaten us or our loved ones with danger. We must remember that we have a Savior and Deliverer.
If we concentrate on the Savior and remind ourselves who He is, what He came to do, and what He can do, it should bring joy and peace to our hearts. Our Savior that is within us can handle any problem and help us overcome any situation.
"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me ... ."
Psalm 23:4
The Lord did not promise to always take away the problem, but He did promise that He will take us through it. He is able to strengthen us and give us courage, peace, and joy in midst of whatever we are facing.
We can rest
