The stench of sweat and urine entered into my nose, as I stepped into the house of the drug junkies. There were syringes and teaspoons everywhere, and the floor was littered with burnt tin foil and blunt cigarettes. What a fucking shithole is what I thought to myself as I searched for my contact.
I spotted him on the bed, lying there with his belt tightly around his thigh, his veins on both his arms had collapsed that he had to now resort to other areas of his body to find a vein. I put my gun down and saw how deteriorated his body was, his eyes were deeply sunken, there were rashes and abscesses all over his face.
Rooks… is that you bro? Your early.
he said to me as he half opened his eyes. I pulled a chair over and sat next to him bedside. Rico, where is everyone?
I said as he sat upright trying to find his lighter. He started coughing blood then reached for his cigarette to inhale.
There all gone bro, after they found out, I was your snitch. I’m fucked now because of you, no way around it. That Russian fucker is coming for me.
I pulled out my wallet and put a number of hundred dollar bills on the bed next to Rico. He looked at it, and started laughing hysterically.
Is that all? After putting my neck on the line for you! Fuck you bro.
Rico, I need information on who is bringing meth in the country, I’m wasting my time, busting these low-level drug houses. I need to find the source.
Meth? You have no clue do you? Nobody is using that shit!
I watched as he pulled a small plastic bag from the underside of his pillow. He threw it at me and I caught it. It’s the good shit, Rooks. Heroin.
I examined the bag to see that it was white as snow the powder was very fine not crystallized, it wasn’t the cheap black tar variations either that was imported from Mexico. But my thought processes were if Rico was being hunted down by a Russian trafficker, they must be sourcing it from Afghanistan from the purity, of the sample he gave me.
I need to know the source of this? Who is distributing?
Listen Rooks, all I know is the term they use for the source ‘Puppet'.
I raised my eyebrow at the unusual name, and I hit back at Rico with another question.
And the Russian, how did he find out about you and why does he want you dead?
I don’t know, all I know is that they found out that I was asking too many fucking questions that got them spooked.
I threw the bag of heroin back at Rico.
Rico, this is the same Heroin, I encountered from my previous deployment in Afghanistan this stuff is of high quality, do have any info on how they are bringing it into the country?
No idea Rooks, I tried to ask and perhaps that’s why I’m on the Russians hit list. All I know is that most of the meth dealers are switching over to it because they have the volume and the stand over tactics they are using.
What kind of volumes are we talking about Rico?
he stared at me, spaced out for a moment before he stubbed out his cigarette.
The kind that will see the Puppets as the number one supplier of drugs in the whole country.
I blinked twice and realised that was all, I was going to get from Rico, so I got up to leave, not before he left me with a few, chilling words of advice.
Rooks, these guys are everywhere. They have their fingers in every pie you can think off. I have never seen operators as ruthless as them.

We received another tip of a clandestine meth lab operating in an abandoned statehouse, in the inner city area. In the dank, dark confines of the police station, I began to load up with the gear necessary for a covert operation. Pausing for a moment, I looked over my shoulder to my partner Anna, as she made preparations by putting on her vest and then tying up the long black laces of her boot. She appeared nervous, by the way, she was repeatedly checking things over, I could feel a sense of tension emanating from her. Anna, Man up you’ll be fine.
I watched as she sneered and raised her middle finger at me.
Under instruction of the police chief – Jeremy Rendell, Anna and I had been assisting at the scene of the
