My dear sweet Emma stood in her group of protection. My heart beat out its own rhythm of fear. I was so afraid I’d never see her again. I understood it was going to happen soon, but she still hadn’t told me when. Something in my gut nagged at me about today.

Everything seemed too perfect. Nothing in the real world worked out without some sort of sacrifice. This idiotic war was only supposed to end with the ultimate one from her. How can they just expect her to die for all of them? Rage worked its way through my system again. It was better to be angry going into battle than anything else. It would be a fuel, something to push me through all the other emotions.
