Welcome to the Aurora Forest where Betty Bumble-Worm and her friends learn and play!
Chapter One
Betty Makes a Friend
Deep on the Aurora Forest floor, there lived a critter named Betty Bumble-Worm. Her mother was a worm and her father was a bumblebee. Betty never really felt like she belonged. When Betty started school, she didn’t have any friends. At recess, she went out onto the playground. She saw a group of bees playing together in the sandbox. She thought that it would be nice to play with them. But when she went over to play with them, they looked at her for a moment. Then they began to tease her and call her names. Betty began to cry.
She looked over to the other side of the playground. It was there, that she saw three little worms playing in the kitty tunnel. She went over and decided to say hi. The worms looked at her and frowned. They didn’t want to play with Betty either. They all crawled away. Betty went over to the swings. She decided that it was better to sit alone than to try to be with critters that didn’t like her for who she was. She was sitting all alone. That was until Vanessa Butterfly came over. She sat beside Betty.
Vanessa told Betty not to worry about all the other kids. She said that they always treated new kids like that. Betty was happy to hear that. She thought that the other kids’ behavior had something to do with her. She thought that they didn’t like her because of whom and what she was. She especially felt better because she knew that she had a new friend, Vanessa Butterfly.
Think About It
Has there ever been a time when you felt like you didn’t belong? How did you get over it?
Do you remember when you made you first friend? Who is your best friend?
