The story was alright. The evidence of editing deteriorated with each book in the story. I also don't like books with cliffhangers, especially in books that are this short, it feels like a lazy way to write multiple books. The reading level also feels like a mismatch for the content of the book (it reads like it was written for someone with a low reading level).

Chapter 1

What do you mean I have to go live with relatives in Alabama? Billy Markstock turned in panic to his lawyer.

Just a few hours earlier Billy was returning home from his senior class trip, which he spent with Stuart, a guy he realized he loved.  As if realizing he was in love with a guy wasn’t enough change for one week, he returned home to find FBI agents clearing out the house he grew up in.  His father, an influential judge, had been arrested for several counts of bribery, and now Billy found himself in a sterile FBI interrogation room with his father’s lawyer, Mr. Mendalsen.

You’re only seventeen, still a minor, the stoic looking FBI agent sitting across from Billy and his lawyer announced.

Can’t I get emancipated? Billy asked after giving a dirty look to the FBI agent and then turning his attention back to Mr. Mendalsen.

I’m afraid you have no means of supporting yourself, the lawyer answered, And, besides, by the time we could get a hearing and have you declared legal, you’d practically already be eighteen.

Billy hung his head in despair.  It was all finally sinking in.  He was flat broke, and alone.  He was going to have to move a thousand miles away from the only home he ever knew...a thousand miles away from Stuart.  He wouldn’t be able to go to college as planned.  In the blink of an eye, his entire future had been wiped away.

It’ll be okay, Mr. Mendalsen tried to offer, but Billy was no longer listening.  His lawyer’s words just faded away in the background.

Are we done here? he suddenly asked with purpose.  He had to go see Stuart.

As soon as the FBI agent informed Billy and his lawyer that they were free to go, Billy jumped from his seat and exited the room, not even waiting on Mr. Mendalsen.

Billy! Mr. Mendalsen yelled, running to catch up to the distraught teenaged boy.  Your flight to Alabama is in four hours! he said as he grabbed Billy’s arm and swung him around.  If you’re thinking about running...

I’m not running, Billy answered, annoyed.  I just need to say my goodbyes.  I’ll be at the airport in time, he assured Mr. Mendalsen, but in his mind he wasn’t sure yet what he would do.

His mind was on overload as he sped down the freeway in his jeep.  He was half angry and half sad.  He didn’t know whether to scream or cry.  I’M COMING OVER.  WE NEED TO TALK, he texted Stuart quickly.

As he drove, he heard his phone chime several times, indicating he had incoming text replies from Stuart.  He didn’t look at them though.  He was almost at his destination and was having a hard enough time keeping his focus on the road.

As soon as Billy pulled into Stuart’s apartment complex, he saw Stuart sitting at the bottom of a set of steps.  Y-y-you d-didn’t answer my r-r-replies, Stuart said, with a stutter and a worried tone.

He and Billy had only known each other for a few weeks, really.  He was assigned to be Billy’s tutor to help him pass the Literature final so he’d be eligible to go on the senior class cruise.  Since he and Billy had been spending time with each other, he had shed his geeky exterior and stutter and become more confident.  He didn’t feel that way any longer though.  Billy’s text scared him.

I’m sorry, Billy answered and grasped Stuart tightly.  Hugging Stuart felt so good and had a calming effect on him.  Something happened, he added without letting go of the embrace.

Wh-what is i-i-it? Stuart asked.  He was no longer afraid that Billy was coming over to break up with him, but something was definitely wrong and he was now scared for Billy.

Billy stepped back and took a seat on the steps before beginning.  As he told Stuart about all that had happened after he had returned home, Stuart just listened silently.  Well? Billy finally asked.  He wanted Stuart to say something comforting, something that would magically make everything alright.

I don’t know what to say, Stuart replied.  It was obvious to Billy that he was as heartbroken at the news as Billy was.  I’m going to miss you, he finally offered.

I’m going to miss you, too, Billy replied in a whisper as he tried hard to hold back the lump in his throat.  He could feel the oncoming sting of tears welling up behind his eyes.

We can text and talk everyday though, and we’ll get you through this together, Stuart suggested after taking a minute to compose himself.  He felt horrible, and as if his relationship with Billy had passed away, but he knew
