About this ebook

An ominous doom in the form of a creeping ooze has plagued Marie's people for ages, kept at bay by tragic sacrifices. Once this ritual no longer satisfies the sludge, Marie must make a dreadful decision if she hopes to save her people while also saving her life.

Will things pan out, or is she just sealing the fate of everyone she's ever known and loved?

A masked man kneeled at the edge of a purple blanket that covered the countryside. Making a tally in the book on his knee, he sighed. This sludge baffled everyone who had tried to explain it, and on top of that it was creeping over the entire island. It had been for a few years now since the ooze departed from what residents playfully deemed 'the pen'. By now, it was a long way from home. Honestly, the man did not mind his work too much. Keeping track of the ground this substance covered was a great job, except for the part where you had to report that it moved nearer to civilization again.

Today, the filth was a knuckle-length closer. The growth's journey had slowed down considerably in the past month, much to the delight of townsfolk nearby. The distance between the sludge and the last untouched city was closing, though, the impending doom recently becoming visible from the city limits. Half of the grain fields were covered, though daring farmers still harvested what they could from the untainted crop. Those that wouldn't go near the filth hired others to get the work done.
