Brianna Rosamunde Zimmermann-Clancy. Yeah, really. Blame my parents and their need to include our familial heritage in everything we do. Rare indeed is the form that can contain my name within its neat little squares, or the person who spells it right on the first try. And alphabetically? Always last, of course. At least it’s unique. To be honest, it wasn’t even all that big of a deal, really, until college freshman orientation. Then suddenly, it really was.

Number 513. This was it. Butterflies flitted around my insides. My home for the weekend, a room I’d be sharing with a couple of upperclassmen who would show me around and introduce me to college life. I stood, hesitant and unsure. Nervous, always nervous. A whole year had passed since high school before I’d even dared apply. But I’d been accepted and now I was here, raring to go. If I only dared knock, that is.

Taking a deep breath and willing the butterflies to settle, I smoothed my skirt, brushed my stubborn ginger locks out of my face and put on a practiced smile that made the most of my freckles and dimples. Raising my hand, I rapped quickly. Seconds felt like hours, but then the door opened and I realized I’d already have to revisit what I thought I knew about my roommates. To start with, they were male.

Er, hi, I stuttered. Yes Brianna, quite eloquent. I think maybe I got the wrong room? I looked at my info packet and then back to the door, just to be sure.

Man, I definitely hope not, said a deep baritone voice. My eyes tracked upward. Man, he was tall! And I mean tall! I wasn’t really big to start with, but the way he filled the whole doorway made me feel tiny. But his slightly lopsided grin was friendly, even if I had to crane my neck to see it. Who were you looking for?

If the rest of him is that big, I wonder if his... concentrate! The Queen
