Working for the Billionaire - Cindy Johnson

    1: Getting the Job

Times were hard for Ellie. On her 23rd birthday she had found out that her long-term boyfriend was cheating on her with the neighbor. Then, she was in the process of packing up her things to move out when she received notice that she had not made it into nursing school. And finally, when she collapsed onto the floor, crying, her no-good ex walked in and announced he would be keeping the cat.

In one day she had been completely unmoored from everything she had held dear. But she tried to look on the bright side. Her ex had actually been a pretty terrible lover, so she might actually get descent oral sex now. And the cat had never liked her anyway – it enjoyed tormenting her by knocking her books off shelves in the middle of the night. And as for nursing, she was only really doing that because she didn’t know what else to do. Now she could spend time finding out what her true passions where!  This is what she told herself, anyway. It didn’t really reassure her though, and she mostly just laid on the couch of her new tiny studio apartment crying while eating Doritos.

However, the need for money was strong. Ellie knew she’d need to get a job soon, or she wouldn’t be able to afford any more Doritos (or electricity for that matter). So she began a desperate job search on the internet. Mostly she found money laundering scams, poorly disguised prostitution offers, and coffee house jobs.  Being a fresh college graduate, Ellie had little job experience but really didn’t want to make coffee as her entry-level job. It all felt hopeless. What was she to do?

After hours of searching she finally caught sight of the ad that would change her life. At the bottom of the webpage, just about to expire, sat a four line ad for an office assistant. ‘Looking for a reliable, strong-willed assistant for large media corporation. Must be willing to work harder than anyone else on the team. Entry level for new college graduates. Include photo with resume." It sounded absolutely perfect!

Now, Ellie fretted about what photo to send. She was a little uncomfortable with the idea that they were screening people for the position based on appearance. And she had a feeling that doing so might actually be illegal. But she really needed a job, any job, and a large media corporation was probably a better bet than most of the other ads she had seen. So she went through her computer, trying to find the perfect shot. She wanted something professional, but also unique. She needed to stand out from the crowd in a big way if she was going to have a shot.

Finally, she found a picture from the previous summer when she had
