About this ebook
A battle older than history...As the elf king El-Melech, lord of Lunas Enoch, stood gazing at his endless forest, he recalled the first age of dark when evil ruled the world of Sastion. Those were days of his own epic struggles and the last alliance among elves, dwarves, and humans that bound the dark lord and brought peace. Now the earth is again crying with the sounds of war, and messengers from distant corners of the empire of Lun bring news of horrors unleashed by the returning evil of evils and his servants. El-Melech, the human emperor Corvelin, the dwarven king Rundor, and all other leaders ally together for the good of the earth. Only the four sisters of Masks can save them, their magic is the last hope.

Four Sisters of Masks
Priests of the Earth Mother chanted their prayers while burning incense around the dead Emperor’s body. Lying in state before the vast crowd weeping as one was Emperor Corvelin, murdered four nights ago by an unknown assassin. The Emperor was the brightest of stars, the wisest of men, and most importantly, he knew what evil was coming. And he prepared, oh, how he prepared his Empire of Lun, all in advance of an unseen malice. Stockpiles of supplies and weapons were hidden throughout the Empire in secrecy, and new mages were trained in the magic arts. Only the Emperor and his closest advisors The Four Sisters of Masks,
were aware of any preparations. They are the first of a new and mysterious order of magic known as Masked Ones.
Their ways of magic are new compared to the established orders of ancient energy.
Yet, with all of their magic and wisdom they were blind to the shadow in the palace, jeering at their ignorance. Clinging to the Emperor in the weeks leading up to his death, gathering all of the Emperor’s knowledge to send along to its Master, with a lick of its fanged teeth, and a hiss for a laugh it watched and waited until the perfect moment…four days ago.
Sleeping alone in his bed chamber after an exhaustive day of training with the spear, the shadow struck. Worming its way from under the bed as the Emperor slept, the shadow stabbed the great man through his heart. As he died both the shadow and black, oozing blade in the Emperor’s chest dissolved away to nothing. Only the hissing laughter could be heard throughout the palace as the most powerful, and perhaps most important man in Lun, died alone. Forgotten Gods wept, while unseen the gray hand of Death cringed to take one of such shining light through this treacherous act. ‘The enemy is a devious mind,’ the disembodied voice moaned from nowhere and everywhere, while a golden chariot flew away.
Every eye wept in the hall as they watched the priests perform the rituals on the Emperor’s body. Every cheek was wet, except the four young looking women in the front row, The Four Sisters of Masks. The eldest of the four, Joirah, always wore her mask closer than the others to hide her feelings. There was no grief in her, only a burning rage, and a howling cry for revenge against this black act of hate. Standing in her gray and blue mage robes she held her oaken staff of magic so tightly it began to glow. The legendary staff named Zuerac,
after the blood wizard she slew to earn it. Joirah is the most powerful human sorceress in the Empire of Lun. Though all masked ones use magic, none match the prowess of Joirah.
She wears a half mask plainly covered in flesh tones split along the left side of the nose. She will wear the same half mask until the fire dragon Auel Sintchara
who killed her parents is found and brought to her justice. Ten years ago, in revenge, the four sisters tracked down the dragon’s sister, Ea-Cha Machera,
and killed her in a battle that made them famous across the entire Empire of Lun, and indeed the World of Sastion. Joirah’s Owl companion, Madam, sat solemnly on her shoulder sharing the memory. Wise yellow eyes filled with animal sadness at Emperor Corvelin’s death. Joirah nuzzled her closely for comfort.
Her three sisters were standing along with her, beyond tears. Clareen and Mireen are fraternal twins who couldn’t be more different. They love each other more than life itself, but each is her own mask. Clareen stood wearing all black, appropriate for the occasion, but Clareen always wears black. She dug her hands into the
