- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I have to say I did feel good as soon as I opened ‘Your Daily Walk with the Great Minds’ and began reading. The book is broken out by months, and each day is set with a specific quote, a mediation that is in relation to that quote, there is a personal journaling question to help you to define your feelings and thoughts and last, an affirmation. One that I liked is this (especially as I feel we can all do well with more peace in our life.):‘First keep the peace within yourself, and then you can also bring peace to others’ by Thomas Kempis. The meditation states that you cannot have peace around you if you do not have it inside you, first. For the personal journaling, you are asked “how will you create peace in your inner life today?”. The affirmation is ‘Today, I will remember that my external life is created from within’. Many of these quotes are similar to the above. However, I was disappointed in a few things. First, as this is a daily guide, I would have preferred the ‘date’ to be eliminated. (For the quote above, that was listed under ‘May 24’). Many times I personally become confused as I am not sure I am harming ‘the program’ if I am not starting it on the right day. I am asking myself questions and wondering if I am lacking something or wondering if I should back-track the previous dates and ‘catch up’.My second issue was the recommend book list. The recommended book list includes such books as: The Power of Positive Thinking: A practical book teaching you to energize your life and give you the initiative you need to carry out your desires, as well as to be nice to yourself. The Power of Intention: From what information I could gather, this book helps one to have in mind, a purpose or plan that can align with the universe so that it can happen. The majority resonates on this scale and I can agree to why they are recommended. A few books, “Tuesdays with Morrie” and “The Five People You Meet in Heaven”, I would not really expect on this list. Yes, they both represent meaning that can relate, but in my own personal opinion, I would find “The Power of Now” and “A New Earth” to be much better suited for the work and changes Mr. Singer is presenting to us and very surprised that neither is listed on his recommended reading list.Otherwise, this would be a good start for someone that was once the way I used to be: Negative, depressed, and just normally ‘down’ all the time on everything. As someone that once was that way, I know what a person must invest to make that positive change for a sense of well-being. I have been there and I did it. Granted, I did it before I encountered Richard’s pocket book “Your Daily Walk with the Great Minds”, but that does not mean I am not still seeking to make sure I am the best mother, wife, therapist and person I can be for those that rely on me.
