Race-tailored genetic plagues and human cloning are commonplace in this world of the near future. One man dares to stand up to the might of the bio corporations after his brainjob (the brain is put in a new, clone body). He struggles for his identity, as his brain was put into a clone of a different race, and then has to run for his life from the corporation that saved his life. He fights for his freedom and for his daughter, off-planet, as the bio corp that owns his clone comes for what's theirs.

The bio corp sends a ruthless bounty hunter after him..."The severed finger oozed blood. Bone and cartilage slipped out of the cut. It was like a horror scene. Raine smelled the warm-meat stink of blood in the thick air of the study. It had not been a clean take. The guy had struggled and beat at Raine with his fists, so Raine finally had to bite the guy’s finger off. It was the index finger and he had worn a ring on it. Raine turned the finger over in hands, which were encased in surgical gloves. He took off the guy’s ring, pocketed it, then wiped the blood off the finger. He’d knew the bastard had a safe somewhere and a few minutes of searching revealed it behind a desk. When Raine slipped the severed digit into the reader, the print from the finger opened the safe. Raine smiled."
