Shattered: A Small-Town Horror and a Dark Romance

About this ebook
He's not a vampire or a werewolf, but there's definitely something off about Vic. Andromeda feels like just another statistic. She's a teenage girl with no prospects for college and the assumption that she'll be stuck in her tiny town looking after her autistic brother for the rest of her life. But when charming Vic shows up, her worldview is shattered. She thought it was love that made her want to sleep with him. She thought getting accidentally pregnant wouldn't change everything. He even promised to be there for her and take care of them both. He promised. But love doesn't force you to stay. And normal babies don't cause religious zealots to attack you. Meet the new normal. A Rosemary's Designer Baby. She's far from a statistic. She's a miracle. And the scientists who made the baby want it back for experiments. Does Vic really love Andromeda? Does Andromeda really love him? Will Vic side with the emotionless payday promised to him? Or will Andromeda be able to sway his broken, closed-down heart toward their innocent baby's freedom? She knows her baby isn't evil. Does Vic? Failure is not an option even if true love is. Download Shattered now to find out if Andromeda and innocence win. (This is a screenplay meant to be read like a novel) (previously published as Make Me.)

EXT. TREE-LINED STREET IN WINTER - DAY
ANDROMEDA RAVYN ADRIANO (18) steps off the curb and into the street without looking. Her eyes are focused on her phone and the text message she's creating. The screech of tires from a SILVER Impala is heard and a THUMP when Andromeda is knocked to the ground. Her phone is thrown from her hand into the gutter. She looks up in stunned surprise. Her WHITE Ipod headphones are wrapped around her ankle. The stranger, VICTOR IGNATIUS GARRETT (23), jumps from his car and hurries to her side. She wears a GOLD Star of David around her neck.
VICTOR
I am so sorry. I didn't see you.
His hands reach for her, touch her arm, her shoulder. Andromeda SHRUGS him away, her BLACK-rimmed eyes narrowing at his scuffed, BLACK shoes. When he tries to pull his hand away, his watch link gets caught in her hair.
ANDROMEDA
Ow!
VICTOR
I'm so sorry.
ANDROMEDA
Just get your hands off me.
Andromeda FROWNS up at him. She is dressed all in BLACK. She reaches down to touch her bleeding leg and untangle the earbuds. Vic CHEWS on a toothpick while looking concerned. He wears a windbreaker and BLACK Dockers.
VICTOR
Here, let me help-
He reaches for her leg, but she yanks away.
ANDROMEDA
I said lay off!
She replaces the earbuds in her ear and POPS her gum in an angry way, but doesn't stand. She looks shaken.
ANDROMEDA (CONT'D)
What were you thinkin'? Didn't you see me?
VICTOR
No, sorry.
She GLARES at him. She struggles to stand and he puts a hand out. She swats his hand away.
ANDROMEDA
I said don't touch me. (Mutters) Freakin' idiot.
She brushes dirt and twigs off her bare legs then pulls her skirt down and straightens her sweatshirt. Vic reaches for her phone in the gutter, wipes the screen off and hands it to her. She SNATCHES it out of his hands and examines the phone.
ANDROMEDA (CONT'D)
Great, the screen is cracked. (BEAT) I had the right-of-way.
Vic MURMURS an apology while she examines her phone screen. Wind pushes past, causing Andromeda to SHIVER.
VICTOR
I can replace it, here.
He takes his WALLET out and tries to hand her a fifty dollar BILL. She shakes her head 'no' while curling her lip in disgust.
ANDROMEDA
Pig. You think you can just buy me off? You're crazy.
She wraps her arms around herself tightly and SHIVERS again.
VICTOR
You're cold.
Andromeda looks insulted as he PULLS his sweater over his head and offers it to her. She backs away from him shaking her head 'no'.
ANDROMEDA
What do you care?
Vic reaches out to brush more twigs off her back, but she CRINGES away from him and holds up her hand for him to stop.
ANDROMEDA (CONT'D)
I will call the popos on you if you get any closer.
Vic RAISES his hands in the air to show he's not touching her. He glances down at the bruise on her leg, WINCES, and returns his gaze to her face.
VICTOR
I feel so bad about your leg. I want to make it up to you.
A noise chimes on Andromeda's phone so she examines the screen. Vic waits patiently until she looks up again.
ANDROMEDA
Then watch where you're goin' next time, try not to be such an oblivious asshole.
Vic holds his hand out in greeting.
VICTOR
Vic.
ANDROMEDA
What?
VICTOR
I'm Vic.
Andromeda stares at his manicured hands. She notices his muscles and his shaved, SHINY head. She notices the SILVER medical bracelet circling his wrist and LAUGHS. When he looks confused, she sobers and CHEWS her gum, but doesn't reach her hand out in return. She fingers her necklace instead. He glances at it so she stops, tucks it beneath her blouse and GLARES at him.
ANDROMEDA
So?
Vic shakes his head 'no' and shrugs.
VICTOR
I'm just trying to be friendly.
ANDROMEDA
Why would I give a shit what your name is anyway?
VICTOR
You don't have to.
ANDROMEDA
Yeah, well, just keep your freakin' pig hands to yourself, okay?
She starts to walk away from him, adjusting her earbuds and the volume on her music. She LIMPS slightly. Vic calls out after her.
VICTOR
I got some weed.
Andromeda SNORTS and turns around with her arms crossed.
ANDROMEDA
Oh please. You think just 'cause I look like some angsty teenager I like pot? Whatever. Even if I did, I wouldn't smoke with you.
Andromeda ROLLS her eyes while smiling slightly.
VICTOR
Let me drive you home, then. It would be a bitch to have to walk on that leg. It's the least I can do.
Andromeda stares at him with her hands on her hips. Vic moves the toothpick in his mouth as he watches her. She reaches up to turn her music down and POPS her gum loudly.
ANDROMEDA
You think I'm that easy to peg? Oh poor me, my leg's fucked up and I can't get home. I'm like, a wounded bird and you're a cat, right?
Vic shakes his head 'no'.
VICTOR
Not at all. I just want to help.
ANDROMEDA
What makes you think I need your help?
VICTOR
Because you do.
Andromeda RAISES one eyebrow as she looks him over.
ANDROMEDA
Please. (BEAT) You at least got some good shit, or what?
Vic nods 'yes'.
VICTOR
Medical grade. Scout's honor.
He holds up the Scout's honor sign with his fingers. Andromeda looks him up and down. She smiles slightly, but stops smiling when she sees he's smiling too.
ANDROMEDA
You're not just some yuppie asshole that doesn't know his brown from his green, right?
Vic shakes his head 'no'.
ANDROMEDA (CONT'D)
And you're gonna take me to pick my brother up too, right? I mean, cuz otherwise I'll be late. He's gettin' outta school at three. I can't be late.
Vic nods 'yes'.
VICTOR
Sure. Just let me know where to go.
Andromeda PURSES her lips and pops her gum. She clears her throat. Vic RAISES his eyebrows.
ANDROMEDA
You gonna turn into some Jack the Ripper or what? Cuz
