    DARK HEAT (series one)

    Chapter 1

Doron rolled over moaning. He tried to open his eyes but they felt so damn heavy. What the hell did he drink or take from Jasper to give him such a hangover?

He rolled back over and hit something. When he looked over he saw Desiree sprawled across, topless with her hair covering her pillow. He was tempted to kiss those little rosebuds of hers but he decided not to wake her. He tried to roll out of bed but instead he landed on the floor face down.

He wiped his face with the back of his hand and pulled himself up and looked around for his shirt. Then he remembered Desiree ripping it off him. He grabbed his pants and pulled them on. It wouldn’t be the first time he left a place with no shirt. His feet stumbled down the stairs and by the smell he was in some demon bar. He always cursed Jasper for bringing him to these kinds of bars. The booze and demon drugs flowed too fast and furious.

When he made it half way down the stairs he could see the litter of last night’s party. Bottles that had been filled with blood lay on their sides with some of the left over content dripping over the counter. The smell of the blood made his insides twinge. The remains of other demon drinks burnt the back of his throat. Whatever they were smoking last night hung in the air like dust.

Doron went for the door. Before leaving he scanned the room to see if he could see Jasper. He didn’t see him anywhere so he was probably upstairs with some girl he found last night or not even here. Doron remembered finding him in completely other realms the next morning. He shook his head and let his hand fall against the latch.

    Leaving without her?

The voice made him turn his head to the one who questioned him. It was Suzie, Jasper’s new found friend.

    What do you care?

Her large dark eyes stared out this small face that seemed not to suit her. Her lips formed a small smile as she brushed a black strip of hair that fell over her short white blond bob. "I don’t really but since you’re the only one awake to talk to…

Oh I see, you want to find someone to continue the party with.

Her dark eyes scrunched up pushing her little button nose up into the air. I’m not looking for another party sunshine; I just want to get the hell out of here. Can I pass through a realm with you?

Doron looked out the door and then back down at his feet. He sighed, why not? But we don’t have to hang out or anything, do we?

She whirled around and was going back in when he called out.

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. If you want to hang out, we can.

He watched for a reaction and was about to open the door to leave when she was right beside him.

They looked at each other and both shrugged their shoulders as she went out the door first.

Doron summoned a portal that appeared out of thin air. They both walked through.

    Nice place.

My brother has good taste, I guess.

    What, you don’t like it?

If you like an old house filled with old stuff, then I guess it would be up to your taste.

Suzie snorted, You’re such an asshole.

Doron smiled, Is that my pet name now?

Suzie grinned, Yeah, I think it suits you.

Doron opened the front door to two large vampires who didn’t look happy.

Where the hell have you been? You’re supposed to tell us where you are going. Tai will be furious with you. James shook his head at Doron, Where is your shirt?

Got ripped off in the throes of passion, yelled Doron as he walked past them and straight into the kitchen. Suzie followed close behind. Who the hell are they, your watch dogs?

    Something like that.

Suzie sat herself on one of the stools at the breakfast bar. So, can you cook or do you have one of those that do all that stuff for you?

Doron scoffed as he grabbed one of his discarded t-shirts off of a chair and slid it over his head, I wish, and those watchdogs out there can’t cook worth a shit. I’m on my own.

I guess I could make you something since I do know how to cook.

Are you trying to impress me?

She snorted. No asshole, I’m starving and as usual if I want to eat, I have to feed myself.

Suzie slid off the stool and opened up the fridge door. Whoa, there is enough food here to feed the whole neighborhood. You’re a spoiled asshole.

Why did I bring her home? I don’t need this right now.

She proceeded to take food out of the fridge and pile it on the cupboard.

Are you going to take some with you?

As his voice sounded a little too hopeful she slammed the fridge door rattling the contents. I’m offering you food stupid so take it or leave it.

Doron held up his hands in surrender. Who am I to turn down an offer of food? He eyed her carefully, Are you going to offer anything else?"

    Offer what?

Doron grinned and then she held up the eggs ready to throw them. I’m kidding, okay? Doron laughed at her which just ended up her mumbling asshole.

She sat a plate of scrambled eggs in front of him along with some hash browns. This day wasn’t so bad after all thought Doron. . Suzie sat opposite him. He took real notice of her this time. Her straight blond pixie hair with one black streak running down the right side stuck out in odd angles giving her sharp features even more angles. Her tiny button nose turned up slightly. Doron thought it was cute. It offset those almost too large brown eyes of hers that were almost caramel in color thought Doron. Her fingernails were hot pink which seemed out of place for her. He featured black lacquered nails for her. He wondered what her story was and how she ended up with Jasper.

He watched her stab at her eggs with what looked like vengeance. He leaned over. The eggs are innocent, don’t abuse them anymore. Those eyes of her looked straight into his. Doron couldn’t help but feel like she had crawled inside his head.

She grinned at him which made him relieved. I’ll try to show more mercy but I’ll share a secret with you. I can be a merciless bitch.

Doron choked a bit. Thanks for the warning. Did you let Jasper know that?

Her little nose scrunched up. Why would I let him know anything?

Aren’t you two, you know, together?

She almost spit out her eggs. He’s even more of an asshole than you. No, I am not together with him.

Oh. Doron felt a bit stupid to just assume that but Jasper never usually hooked up with a girl unless he was sharing their bed. The rest of the meal was ate in silence until she got up and took his plate away. Do you drink coffee?

Yeah, I can make that. I can do some things.

The men came in at this point checking
