    Every Rose Has Thorns

    Rose stood as the holo-room buzzed to life. Room 21 on Deck 12 was the least used holo-room on the ship. Rose squared her shoulders as the program she picked revealed itself to her panel by panel. Exhaling heavy, she turned three hundred and sixty degrees taking in the wondrous beauty of the landscape encircling her. Thatched houses and cobblestone walkways surrounded her. With her small pink mouth agape, she closed her eyes and pointed her face into the holo-sun warming her skin. She felt as if time has stopped. She closed her mouth and let the wind and warmth take her into this other world escaping from her own life on ship.

    As Rose stood she sensed other things besides wind and warmth. She wrinkled her nose as earthy smells of dirt, fungi, and pine tickled her sense of smell. The gentle breeze brushed her long brown tresses and whipped them into her cheeks leaving tiny red welts. She opened her emerald green eyes as she brushed away the stinging tendrils. In the center of the square, she found the fountain. Tilting her head ever so
