About this ebook

This book of my rhymes and poems is for the child in all of us. Both young and old we need to keep that spark of wonder in our lives that is a child. I touch upon those moments so pivotal in a boy or girls life that they shape and mold us. Tell me, who of us still remember that first chocolate chip cookie our moms made just for us? Or flying a kite on a breezy Spring day? It is these experiences I still remember well and wish to tell to the young as well as the young at heart. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have in remembering them. My outlook on life, which I’ve told to so many of my friends, is that there will be good times and bad times. The bad ones you should realize only magnify the good ones and make them so much more. Enjoy my gift to you all.

    ***

    Author: Brian Cecil (aka Pirate60)

Brian was born to Richard and Ellen Cecil in July of 1960. Fifth of seven kids, he grew up in the midwestern state of Missouri USA, in a small city called Florissant just northwest of St. Louis.

At the very young age of 24 months, a malformed blood vessel in his brain ruptured nearly ending his life prematurely. As a result he was left with a partial left side paralysis; primarily the left arm and leg.

Branded a cripple by his adolescent peers, he grew up knowing the darker side of mans cruelty. This, however, he considers a blessing in disguise, having given him a unique view on those little things in life others miss or consider insignificant. To him, what appears as just a rainbow after a shower, bloom’s before his eyes as a grand painting on a galactic scale; God’s canvas if you prefer. Life is, after all, as one preserves it to be.

He endured a number of operations at ‘Shriner’s Hospital For Crippled Children’, in an attempt to gain some useful movement of his arm and leg. The results were somewhat successful considering the times.

He developed a love for the sciences as well as the arts yet did not pursue his writing until around the age of 45, when he played around with an idea for a series of children’s short stories.

It wasn’t till he joined an Internet web site called ‘The Den Of Amateur Writers’, that his gift of poems and rhymes developed into what is this, his first publication. Combining his style with that of another aspiring Poet, they put together the poetry E Book called ‘Poems And Rhymes Of Our Times. Other works are pending publication.

    Poems And Rhymes

    Eighteen Lines

    Of

    The Common Cold

A stomachache, runny nose and a pounding head

A sneeze and a wheeze, I wished I were dead

My forehead felt so red and so hot

They say it's a bug, that's what I have got

To bed I did go with covers pulled up

Mom’s hot chicken soup, filling up my cup

Sleep I did seek, for a little relief

To end my discomfort, to end my grief

It was not to be, that night of peace

Of mom’s soothing liquid, my stomach did release

Up it came, like a Satanic scene

To paint the walls, a sickly puke green

Once emptied out, I did so appeal

A bargain with God, I wanted a deal

The night it did pass, the sun came up bright

I won the battle, I won my fight

Off came the covers, I leapt like a fool

Mom smiled at me, then sent me to school
