About this ebook

Welcome to the second short work of the Aftermath Zombie Series. This series is a short work series of eBooks set a few months after the collapse of society due to a zombie apocalypse. The intrinsic nature of the events that brought on the apocalypse leave the survivors in doubt and still attempting to understand the nature of the zombies they are fighting to survive. The series is set to cover five short works which become incrementally longer as the series continues. A final book will compile the shorter works. There may also be an additional short work covering the scientific research behind the zombie virus that has left the human species teetering on the brink of extinction.
This series details the journey of an unknown woman who is later named Ghost by an individual she encounters along her travels. While facing cultural challenges and learning how to survive more comfortably, she has time to reconsider her surroundings and process what has happened to the world and her place in her new surroundings.
Aftermath: Wanderer details the exploits of Ghost as she learns to become proficient in survival. She can shed the tears she wants but her strange companion seems to have less compassion for her than her harsh surroundings. However, there may be another side to him she must learn to understand without the aid of social norms. When they happen upon another survivor he is instantly included in their entourage and Ghost realizes she may have taken her rescuer for granted. She certainly comprehends she has very little understanding of his nature.

    Aftermath: Wanderer

It didn’t take me two weeks to figure out that Asshole lived up to every letter of his name. It wasn’t just that he was particular it was that he was particular and if something I did didn’t meet his approval I had to hear about how I was lazy and I didn’t know anything. He quipped about having to watch over me as if I were a child when he had more important things to do. He complained that he had to teach me everything if I didn’t understand what or why he was doing something. He howled when I had no idea about his habits and what he had planned. He seemed generally discontent to have me around at all and I wasn’t sure why he let me stay.

Despite his disgruntled manner, I had to admit that Asshole had a plan. There was no debating that he was prepared to deal with the aftermath of the plague. The first time he broke his vow of silence was to chastise me about cooking. The day after I decided to travel with him I woke up just in time to meet a disapproving scowl. I expected him to take a jab at me, but he declined the opportunity for the option to make the air between us charged with implied animosity. I avoided his temper and moved to the back of the truck as he cleaned where I’d been. It was too crowded up there between him and his attitude. Then I made the mistake of touching some packages of food he’d been preparing. That got me a slap on the hand and a granola bar to the chest. The food went into a bag he took outside with him. I followed like a puppy regardless of his deep long winded sighs of displeasure and watched as he carefully placed the packages between different sections of the engine where he’d previously placed chicken wiring. Then he closed the hood of the truck and we left that area for the day.

    Traveling with the Asshole was
