    Chapter 1

    ‘We have to leave!’

    ‘I can’t … I can’t…’

‘If we don’t leave now … we will die!’

    ‘I can’t believe it … I can’t …’

‘Sajan … snap out of it … we have to leave now!’ screamed Godiva.

Both beings were standing on a shiny platform. The clean, white minimalistic room that housed hundreds of patients in airtight computerised cocoons was now falling apart. The floor beneath them trembled, cracks formed in the dense walls, letting in dust and debris. The glass wall with the spectacular view of the technically advanced city had huge splinters. With the next tremor, Sajan knew the wall would shatter into millions of pieces. Fixed to the spot, he was horrified to see his entire city collapsing into a big, dark hole.

‘Listen, we have to go’, Godiva yanked his arm.

Sajan eyes wandered to his patients.

    ‘I can’t leave them … I can’t!’

Godiva stood in front of him, placing both hands on either side of his face. His eyes met hers—big beautiful piecing blue pools. For a split second, he was lost in her. How much he loved and adored this magnificent woman; she was the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on. Her long blonde, wavy hair was pulled back tightly into a ponytail that showed off her high cheekbones and plump red lips. Her tight fitting all-in-one white suit showed off her amazing curvaceous body. This woman whom he had taken as his wife was ahead of her time; she was a genius, no wonder she was the leading scientist in her division.

‘Listen’, her voice softened. She glanced around her crumbling environment, wondering how much more the building could take.

    ‘I’m pregnant’.

    ‘What?’ Sajan was astonished.

‘Come with me … there is a way out … do it for me … for your baby’s sake, our baby’, she cradled her flat stomach.

    ‘Yes’, Sajan was dumbfounded.

He held out his hand, as she guided him to salvation. Following her, he felt numb. How could this be happening? A baby? A baby, I’m going to be a father? Godiva is pregnant? Now? Following her through the rubble and dust of what was once a pristine white, polished corridor, he saw that panic had spread. There was mayhem as people ran for the lifts or the stairwell; he could hear screaming and crying with each tremor.

‘Godiva, stop! We have to help these people; we have to take them with us’.

‘We can’t. The transporter is only a prototype. It has only enough energy for us, if we are lucky’, she replied sternly.

‘Come on!’ she marched towards her laboratory.

    ‘What’s the transporter?’

‘Look there is no time to explain. Come on!’

‘Can’t you do something? Godiva we can’t leave them. We have to help’. Sajan pleaded, hoping she would come up with a genius solution to save everyone.

Guilt consumed him while looking at the terrified people around him. How could he leave his colleagues who had become his dear friends? He had become top in the medical profession due to his natural gift to take away pain and heal. Sajan came from a very long line of healers, his father and his grandfather and those before them had the ability to tune into the planets natural energy. Simply by closing his eyes and concentrating, he was washed in waves of pure natural energy. He then focused the energy into his palms and placed them on his patients. This had remarkable healing results. But now, for the very first time in his life, he felt helpless. Looking at his wife, he felt a strong surge of purpose. Maybe he couldn’t help them, but he was going to make sure his wife and baby were saved, if it was the last thing he ever did.

The door to her laboratory was jammed. Godiva shouted at Sajan to break it down. Watching him thrust his mighty body up against the door, she couldn’t help but admire his strong muscular physic, his short dark hair, his big brown eyes and olive complexion. His powerful broad shoulders pushed the door open a little more with each lunge. Swimming in the ocean every morning before work had kept him in marvellous shape, even though she hated when he left her. It was the only time she couldn’t sense his whereabouts. Everyone on their planet had some form of sixth sense but for some reason, water cloaked their present. He was almost there. The excitement in her tummy was ready to explode.

From the first moment she clasped her eyes on him, she had to have him. But the kind nature that she loved in him, she also hated. His desire to help the wretched, weak, and helpless meant the world took him away from her a little each day. Those people took advantage of his friendship. She wanted him all to herself and would do anything to keep him.

There was an element at the core of the planet that grounded and made every being mortal. The ancient ones constructed the device believing life should have an ending and no one should have too much power. Thousands of years ago this species ran wild; some caused vast devastation. Several planets surrounding theirs had some kind of primitive life but it was killed and destroyed by the power crazy Titans of Sajan’s planet, which was known as Othrys. Anticipating an inevitable end, Godiva had spent many years silently working on a transporter that produced isolated gamma waves to interfere with the element. The transporter was a platform situated in the middle of the room. A large neon red rectangular light sparkled on the floor; it was big enough to hold two of them. The very thought of both beings been projected into space, free to travel the galaxies together for all eternity … how she had long yearned for this moment. Not taking any chances and not wanting anyone to follow or escape, she programmed a device to slowly destroy their world. It was payback, the elders had took their freedom and cursed them with death. As for the pregnancy, well, she could always use her intuition. A sly grin appeared across her face.

With one more shove, the door was open. The white polished room housed a shiny black control panel with green flickering lights. Godiva rushed to the console.

‘Sajan! Sajan! What’s happening? How can this be?’ A young woman in her late teens with royal blue spikey hair rushed in.

Pep was a kind-natured soul who looked up to her elders. Godiva squinted at her. How dare the litter critter enter her room. How dare she be here.

‘God, let Pep go with you’, said Sajan.

She glared at the frightened Pep, fury burning in the pit of her stomach; it was getting harder and harder to contain her anger. There was no way Pep was taking Sajan’s place, not after all the planning and time she devoted to have him. She had an idea.

‘Listen Pep, go and stand in the middle of that red pad … that’s right’, she said.

Godiva secretly touched the controls—as soon as Pep’s foot touched the platform, she would disintegrate. She could blame it on the disastrous environment knocking the transporter offline.

The frightened Pep walked hesitantly towards the transporter. Suddenly, there was another violent tremor, knocking everyone to the floor. The ceiling cracked open and big boulders of rumble fell upon poor little Pep.

‘No!’ Sajan cried, jumping back onto his feet and running to her, trying desperately to free her from the debris.

Godiva regained her posture and checked to see if the console suffered any damage. She beamed—all was fine. She hoped the little critter was dead. Quietly, she reprogrammed the console.

‘No. No! Pep, don’t do this’, screamed Sajan.

Pulling her limp body free, he placed the palm of his hand over her chest concentrating to regain her heartbeat. He tried frantically to save his good friend.

‘Stop it, just stop’, Godiva tugged on his shoulder.

‘We have to go. NOW!’ she demanded.

He was unwilling to let go of his dear friend, but he bowed his head and wished her farewell. It took all his effort to get back onto his feet. Feeling exhausted and defeated, he followed Godiva to the teleport.

Standing on the red pad, Godiva slipped her hand into his, the room shook violently. The walls started to crumble all around them, but she couldn’t help smiling to herself. All her hard work and effort had paid off, now there was no one to divert his attention. Her plan had worked. Sajan felt numb not believing what was going on; all he wanted was for them to be safe. He didn’t know what the transporter was going to do, but he trusted Godiva to keep them safe. He couldn’t help feeling tremendous guilt leaving everyone behind; he felt ripped in two. Suddenly, there was enormous red flash that disintegrated the ceiling and everything above them, he felt an amazing surge of energy rushing through him as he and Godiva catapulted out of the planet’s sphere.

The transporter instantly disintegrated as soon as they were ejected. They both hovered over whilst looking down at their planet dissolving in front of them. Sajan took no notice of his new found powers, naturally flying, his heart sank. Tears rolled down his cheeks. His family, friends, patients, the beautiful exotic creatures … this was his home, his world, how could this be?

With a sparkle in her eyes, Godiva could feel her veins almost bursting with excitement, feeling strong and magnificent, she noticed she was able to fly. What else could she do? Noticing Sajan’s mood, she wrapped her arms around his and nestled her face into his big strong bicep. She beamed, He is now all mine.

Suddenly, a massive explosion filled the atmosphere, knocking the couple backwards for miles. Sajan recovered quickly but saw Godiva doubled up, she looked as though she was in a lot of pain. With his heart almost exploding out of his chest, the thoughts that raced through his mind terrified him. Please no, I don’t want to lose her too.

‘The baby’, she clasped her stomach.

    ‘No! No!’ roared Sajan.

Godiva knew he got his special talent for healing from using energy of a living planet, but looking below, they both knew all the planets were dead.

    NO!

Without planetary energy, he was powerless.

‘The baby, Sajan, I think the baby is …’ Godiva looked deeply into his dark, sorrowful eyes.

Godiva embraced him, gently holding him, a grin appeared across her face; her plan had worked a treat. No more baby and no more anyone or anything to take him away from her. He was now hers for all eternity.

    Chapter 2

Two beautiful streams of black and white light intertwined through the stars like a graceful wind. For centuries they had been this way, just two lights scorching each other. With their planet destroyed, their latent powers had returned, giving them immortality, strength, speed and the ability to fly at will. For years they roamed from one galaxy to another.

Godiva always dreamed of them being so happy and in love. He had always made her feel so special, so important, he worshipped her, but since that delightful day she got rid of the vermin, he was never the same. She longed for his touch, his soft words, his light. Why couldn’t he just snap out of it? With each passing century, she could feel him slowly fading away. She desperately craved his affection, but he just pushed away each seductive attempt. Now, the situation was becoming ridiculous, something had to change. An idea formed in her mind. With a sly grin appearing across her face, she plotted.

For hundreds of years, Sajan heart mourned, his mind engraved with so many burning questions. He could never fathom what had happened to his planet? It was so sudden, no signs, no warning. Godiva was bored to death by the questioning, but his logic, or was it his gut, kept telling him that she must have had some insight. She was a leading scientist in her field; surely she must have had some kind of inkling. However, she consistently pleaded ignorance. Guilt lay heavily upon his heart; he would never forgive himself for not saving his baby and his people. As for his wife, he saw the frustration and disappointment in her eyes. He’d never meant to hurt her, but shutting off his feelings dulled the piercing pain in his soul. He knew that being a faithful companion was not enough for her, but that was all he had left.

Godiva pined for the man with whom she fell in love, he was nothing more than a shadow. Out of desperation, she devised an idea to bring him back to life, even it meant doing something she dreaded.

    ‘Sajan, let’s have a baby?’

Instant fear shuddered through his being. Was she serious? Starring intently into her eyes, he tried to read her.

‘What?’ He hoped he heard wrong.

‘Sajan, I want a baby, our baby’. She placed her graceful hands onto her stomach.

He could never bring himself to talk about that dreadful day the baby was lost. The word ‘baby’ was a taboo subject until now.

‘I just think the time is right’, she acted coy.

    ‘I … I … I don’t know. I … I … I don’t know if I could’ Sajan choked on his words.

‘It will be a new start. This is what we need. Sajan I promise you’. Her eyes were full of enthusiasm.

A new start terrified him; the past pinched at his damaged heart. Sajan couldn’t help feeling remorseful for all the centuries he had neglected her; she too had experienced the same loss. How he admired her strength and optimism, he knew she had not been happy for a very long time, but, putting on a brave face, she had put up with his silence and his manic periods of questioning. Most of all, she had put up with his rejection. Now, this beautiful bright being wanted to start a new life with him. He didn’t deserve her.

‘Sajan lets do this. It will be so good for us’, she pleaded.

Sajan thought hard, what sort of life would his child have just roaming the galaxies. Surely, there was more to this existence. There must be. A sparkle of life electrified his soul, taking a deep breath, he knew if they did this things would have to be right, every precaution would have to be considered. There was no way he wanted his child to suffer the loss he had. His mind overloaded with a plan.

‘If you are serious’, Sajan paused, ‘I want our child to know life and to experience it. I don’t want our child to ever feel lonely, unloved or unwanted. I don’t want our child to ever experience our loss. I want our child to experience all the wonders there are to experience, but most of all I want our child to have a home, a family’.

Godiva felt sick, all the things she loathed, but there was a sparkle in his eyes as he laid out the law. If she agreed. Maybe, just maybe she could have her Sajan back. As for the other details, she could eliminate them in her own good time.

    ‘That sounds wonderful’, she lied.

‘The first step is to find a home, I want our child to feel the earth between his toes and a planet
