He raised an eyebrow at me, but nodded, “Sunday is fine. Wear your uniform.”

I blushed again, afraid to ask this more than the other, my voice squeaking, “What are we going to do?”

He made a steeple with his fingers and looked me over again. “I'm an amateur photographer. If you would be willing I'd like to take your picture.”

I trembled.

I held onto my English paper and stared at the giant F circled in the upper corner in red ink. I had failed it. I had never failed an exam before, though I had come close. I did not test well.

I stood outside Professor Jenson's office, my mouth dry, my knees practically knocking as I tried to force myself to cross that final threshold. It was late on a Friday, he kept screwy hours, but this was the only time I wasn't supposed to be at Cheer practice that he was in his office, and with Nationals right around the corner I had to be at practice, and I had to have a passing grade.
