    CHAPTER ONE

Every night, Bay walked home after closing her shop. Tonight, however, felt as though someone watched her. Clutching the charm around her neck, she tried to walk faster for she was just four blocks away from her home.

She fumbled with her keys, opened the door and heard a swoosh sound overhead causing her hair to blow around her face. She turned quickly to look behind her but saw nothing. Inside, she leaned her back against the door and flipped on the light switch. She jumped when her cat rubbed against her leg. Giggling, she picked up the cat.

Boy am I glad to see you.

The cat rubbed its head against Bay’s cheek and began to purr.

I know you’re hungry, I’m getting you food right now, she replied and headed for the kitchen.

Bay’s home was quaint and cozy. It was more of a country cottage. She hung chimes in every area of the house to keep bad spirits away. A patio had been built and steps made of slate led down into a greenhouse. This is where she grew her herbs and flowers to make items for her shop. The rooms had been painted brightly and displayed plenty of wicker furniture. A patio was situated in the greenhouse where she often sat at night to unwind and drink her coffee. It was warm and smelled of various flowers. She had purchased a small fountain and placed it amongst the plants. The sound of running water was soothing and helped her to relax.

Oh shit, I forgot to get the mail, she said while she poured the water in the coffee maker and turned it on to brew. She grabbed the flashlight from the top of the refrigerator and headed for the front door. Peaking out and looking both ways, she rushed to the mailbox that stood at the end of the walkway and then ran back into her house. She still could not shake the feeling that she was being watched. She looked behind her once again before closing the door.

Kneeling on the roof of the house, Kane watched Bay and, for the first time, he wished he was a mortal man.

In the morning, as Bay walked to her shop, she waved to people and stopped for a doughnut as usual. By nine am, her store was open and she waited for customers to come in. She didn’t have to wait long when a tall older gentleman with white hair and a closely cut beard entered her shop.

Good morning, Mr. York, she said as he walked in.

Well, good morning Doll face. When are you going to leave all of this and run away with me? he replied and kissed her hand.

Now, Mr. York, what do you have to offer me that I can’t get here? she asked as she raised her arms.

Let’s see a house in the tropics, a yacht in Miami and I also own a limo service, how’s that?

"I must say you‘ve done quite well for yourself. Just yesterday you owned
