The start of an adventure

Peace had fallen upon the farmyard. The usual sound of the birds singing in the treetops. The usual sound of the hens scratching about for a few grains that may have been forgotten.

‘In fact,’ complained Mop on that most usual of afternoons, ‘Everything is always the same. Nothing exciting ever seems to happen.’

This conversation took place, as it usually did, when the farm work had been done and another day was almost over.

Mop was an intelligent dog and he lived up to this description. He was an Old English sheepdog with long
