When I first sat down to write this, I had no idea it would bring back the memories so richly. It all began so long ago. I was little more than a child really, just nineteen, when my father married me off to the first man who'd take me. I was lucky. He's been an amazing teacher and lover, and I'll love him for as long as I live.

Tom was nearly thirty when he married me. A good-looking man, dark haired and sturdy, he had eyes that pierced my soul when he gazed into mine. There were times I hated that he seemed to be able to read me so well, but looking back it’s what made things so wonderful. Our wedding night was like no other I've heard of.

Before we wed, he'd told me about the things he liked to do. It didn’t seem as if he worried what my reaction was, and I have to admit, to a girl as innocent as I had been, a lot of what he said scared me. But he never did anything about it with me. Maybe he thought I was too young, at least until we married. When the 'I do's' were said, all that changed.

We'd danced and partied until the wee hours with friends and family, then we drove off in Tom's shiny, blue Ford pickup truck. I remember feeling lightheaded, drunk for the first time, I suppose. Tom had been so gallant; he’d helped me into the truck and laughed when I'd slurred my words. He'd driven into the country where we'd planned to spend our first few days as man and wife.
