CREATING A PLACE AND SPACE OF REVERENCE

Leader 1: My Lord and my God, You called, Your servants Moses, Elijah, John the Baptist, Francis of Assisi, and Your Son Jesus, from their busy lives, to come apart and to spend time in solitude.

Leader 2: Some You called to the desert, some to mountain peaks, and others to the hidden hermitage within their homes.

Leader 1: We have heard that ancient desert call and seek to be alone with You.

Leader 2: Since we lack a nearby desert or mountain, we will use the space we have.

Leader 1: Come and consecrate this space as a hermitage for us.

Leader 2: Cleanse it of noise and anything that might call us out of its stillness.

Leader 1: May prayerful peace flow outward from here, touching with grace all those whom we love and all the earth as well.

Leader 2: Help us Lord to leave outside this hermitage our plans for tomorrow,

Leader 1: Our memories of yesterday,

Leader 2: As we live fully and completely in the wonder of the present moment.

Leader 1: Lord, may our prayer be one with that of all persons who throughout this world are in solitude and stillness.

Leader 2: May Your blessing be upon us.
