Yonah swooped and soared. She counted herself as the most blessed of all God’s creatures. She could fly. She saw the earth as a patchwork of colors, brown and green, golden and orange. She watched the other creatures bound to the ground and pitied them because they were not her.
One day while flying lazily through swirling pockets of air, she spied the one thing she loved more than flying-- bread. It was delicious; it was dangerous; and she loved it. And this morsel was just lying on the ground by a wall. No one was close by. She slowed her descent. Still there was no sign of movement. Yonah fluttered to the ground. She pecked at the delightful morsel. Suddenly, there was motion, something coming. She stretched her wings to escape. It struck her, knocking her on her back. She struggled and flopped, but there was too much pain washing over her.
I hate you! You’ve killed it!
Elisabeth screamed at Lahad. She ran to the fluttering dove and scooped it up into her arms. Raphael ran up beside her.
It’s just hurt, Elisabeth. Let’s take it to the Teacher. He’s at my uncle’s house. My mother says He can heal the sick.
