About this ebook

" 'Are you actually blogging all this?'

" Of course I am. People need to know what's going on. This isn't publicity for Ferdinand's Fairy Cakes any more, it's a first hand, minute-by-minute account of a historical event in the making. "

A strange illness is spreading through Bullerton, and the only people unaffected by it are the only ones not to have eaten any of Dulcie's cupcakes. Can three young women, a cat, a food blog and a shopful of fairy cakes save the day?

After learning that cupcakes and zombies were the most popular subjects of books sold in 2012, Ziazan decided to leap shamelessly on both bandwagons at once, and this is the result: a blend of horror, humour, romance and life-saving recipes in one short, bitesized novella.

Ziazan

Ziazan can boast training and awards from JGSMD, RWCMD, LAMDA, RADA and TCL, but doesn’t want to bore you with that. All you should know is that she is a storyteller. She tells traditional tales at festivals and events across the UK, she also reads her own works. She has published two books of short stories, one of which has been made into an audiobook, and is working on her second novel. This is all in her spare time, as her main occupation is music. She writes, acts, dances, plays trumpet, piano, harp and lute and has raised Bel Canto from the dead to single handedly stir up a musical revolution by singing at people in a way that no one else alive today can. But it's all the same thing, really. She just loves a good story. Life is one great yarn, and she wants to be part of it, tangling it all up.

    The Cupcake Zombies

Here it is, for all those out there who want to know the truth of what really happened that week in April. I made a copy of the entire blog that the girls wrote before it was taken down. This is the only remaining account of the disaster. Everything else has vanished without trace.

This isn’t a conspiracy theory or anything, I’m just saying, we all heard about it at the time, no one could talk about anything else for a while, and now... Everyone suddenly seems to have forgotten about it. The news just completely ignored it. There were even some lame attempts to explain it as a hoax, or mass hallucination.

The blog that so many people were following has been removed by the host, not by the writers. I can’t find anything on the writers of it now, I really hope they’re alright.

But here it is, for those of you who haven’t forgotten, and want to see the proof that it really happened, or those who never got to read it at the time. I have divided it into chapters, and done a little reformatting, but I’ve not altered anything else. Even all the typing errors are as they were. I’ll probably be censored pretty soon, too, so download this, and share it with your friends, as many people as you can. We have to remember, and we have to be prepared, in case it happens again.

    Ferdinand's Fairy Cakes

Do you remember going to parties when you were small? Did you love pass the parcel and musical chairs, or could you not wait to get at the feast? The jellies and trifle and most of all - the fairy cakes!

Welcome to our blog! Ferdinand’s Fairy Cakes is a trio of cake-baking girls united by one thing - a love of good old-fashioned fairy cakes, just like mother used to make!

You can find us at our shop - there’s a map to us here! - or at fairs, and other fun events. We can also make to order, for parties or any special occasion.

On this blog we’ll be keeping you up to date with the world of Ferdinand’s Fairy Cakes, sharing our favourite recipes, and spreading the cake love!

Oh! who’s Ferdinand, you ask? He’s our mascot, a beautiful, stripy tom cat who adopted us the day we moved into our new shop. He waves his tail like a magic wand, blessing our business! We love you, Ferdinand.

    Meet the team

I’m Chrissie, and I’m the main blog coordinator. I like inventing new cake recipes, and trying out new flavours, which USUALLY work really well! I especially enjoy creating cakes my vegan friends can eat. No one should have to miss out on the joy of fairy cakes!

There’s also Hecate, everyone calls her Hex. She is actually a fully trained herbalist, so if you’re ailing, she can make you a magic potion that will put you right as rain in no time! She’s particularly interested in unearthing old and traditional recipes.

And, last but not least, is Natalie. She is probably the best baker of the three of us, due to being very fastidious. HER cakes never come out a bit questionable-looking! She will also only ever touch natural and/or organic food, so you can rest assured that all our cakes are as good for you as cakes can be!
