    Book Two

    By Sylvia Hubbard

This was a live book in progress

    About Story:

Life has never been worth living for Charisse before her father died. After three attempts to kill herself were unsuccessful, she makes a deal for release from hell on earth, with one of the people who made her life what it was.

It wasn't until Chyna finds out that her husband, Parker Mills was having an affair with her twin sister, Cheyenne, that she realizes she's losing the best thing she's ever had. Feeling the ultimate betrayal by her own sibling, Chyna knows she has to do whatever it takes to keep her husband and give him what he longs for - a baby. Knowing that she's unable to have children and Cheyenne is afflicted with the same condition, she decides to go to the only person that can help her save her marriage - her younger sister, Charisse.

In the end, one sister will die, another will lose everything and one will get everything that she wants.

    Author’s Note:

First off, thank you for your support to my literary endeavors. If you've bought this book, 99% you've bought book one. A lot of people asked why did I break up this book? This is a big book. Big and long and bottom line, big, but not boring. I really had awesome fun writing this book and keeping the love affair between charisse and Parker on the tip of the readers toes.

Secondly, related characters. Some of the following books having related characters in them:

    Stealing Innocence Series

    The Heart of Detroit Series

    Sin's Iniquity

Now that Nevada chick, I can't be responsible with telling you what book she's popping in and out of and yes, she will get her own story, just as soon as she saves her sister from King Heart.

There also might be other books I've pulled from but you'll have to read them all to come back and correct me won't you. ha ha!

    Chapter 28

Parker stared at the screen as if something else was going to majestically pop up on the screen and scream at him that there was something else.

You’d want that? Why’d you expect more?’

Deep down inside, he was expecting her to just say, ‘Parker, you didn’t have the best dream in the world. It was all for real and I was there, laying under you, enjoying your body, letting you touch me.’

Closing his eyes and leaning his head back on the car seat, he took several deep breaths.

As if Charisse Sheridan is going to get over a phobia she’s had for most of her life, just because you’ve got a hard-on for her? You’re losing your mind and your control. Charisse is a friend and you’re not going to fuck this up because you can’t control the member between your legs.’

Looking back at the screen he read the reply for the eighth time and then closed his eyes again.

He wasn’t crazy. People had hallucinations all the time when they were drunk. Very real hallucinations and that changed nothing.

For the past four days, his body was in turmoil.

Upon waking up with a hangover so bad he was throwing up for most of the day, he crawled back on the couch to sleep it off after sending an email for Charisse to reschedule everything.

That’s when he noticed the coat. The coat he’d given to Charisse a while ago.

Then he remembered the dream. Which was odd, because he’d never remembered what he dreamed or if he dreamed when he was drunk.

Digging in the coat thinking he was going to find something of Charisse’s he saw the secondary keys he had given to Chyna. There’s no way Chyna would have given the keys to Charisse and Charisse didn’t even know there was a secondary set of keys. The code was also only for Chyna to use.

The fact that his wife had come scared him.

Had he raped her thinking he was making love to Charisse?

He immediately, despite his anger with Chyna, called her.

    Are you okay? he asked.

Shouldn’t I be asking you that? she countered.

    You came here?

Yes. I drove over there to check on you.

    And?

You were drunk and I left.

Did I hurt you, Chyna? Did I try to force myself on you?

NO! she exclaimed as if that could ever happen.

Parker breathed a sigh of relief, but he was still confused. Why’d you leave your coat? he questioned.

    Mistake? she guessed.

He hung up as his frustration with all the matters that concern her started rising and he could feel his blood pressure was becoming affected.

An hour later he saw her calling back. Even though he’d pushed all calls from everyone else into his voicemail, he answered this one.

    What? he asked.

I’m still leaving, but I think I should leave the night Charisse meets with Cheyenne, she said.

Don’t do any favors for me, he sneered.

It’s your house, Parker. You shouldn’t be away from it and I know you’re staying away because of me.

Do what you want, Chyna. You always do.

She was quiet for a moment, but he knew she was there. He wanted to hang up on her, but he also wanted to hear what she wanted to say to either help him resolve this confusion he was having about the dream or about his situation.

I know you want to spend time with Charisse because of the baby, she said. And I know me being here may interrupt that. You’ve waited too long for this and I won’t deny you that little happiness I can possible give you, Parker.

    You’re too kind, he sneered.

I spoke to your lawyer this morning. I told him the provisions I’d like, but I’ll really let you agree to them.

    Agree to what?

A divorce. I’ll come back for show if you want for the baby. I know how your friend’s outlook means so much to you, because of what happened between your brother, but after a while, I’ll just slowly disappear. People won’t even notice.

    And Charisse?

That’s between the two of you, but whatever you two decide on, you have my blessing, Parker.

Is this your effort to make me happy?

Did you hear what I said? she asked. I said you have my blessings and I don’t want you to feel bad about anything you decide. Okay?

He was too angry to even care what she was trying to stress. You’re too kind. Are you done?

Are you taking Charisse still to see Cheyenne?

I have to and after this I don’t ever want to set eyes on her again.

    Or me as well?

Cruelly he asked, You really don’t want me to answer that.

You won’t hurt Charisse because you’re mad at us, will you, Parker? she asked concerned.

As if you care, but I’m not you, Chyna. I show my anger and my true emotions to the right person.

Do you, Parker? I may not be around this house, but I know you’ve changed since Charisse has been in the house. You’re like your old self before I got to you. Before you got trapped. She paused a moment. You take care of her, please. That’s one of my stipulations. I think… The was another pause and she said miserably, Nathaniel Hawthorne said, ‘Generosity is the flower of justice.’ Kimberly told me that when she called to inquire about how I was feeling because she can’t reach you and I think Jaelen made her call because he thought I did something crazy like kill you. I could hear him whispering in the back. I spilled the beans on everything to her. Charisse doesn’t need any more pity parties in her condition and I haven’t left my bedroom since I came back home. Did you hear me, Parker?

Not really, Chyna, he said tiredly. Do what you want. His mind felt like it was on automatic because now that his wife told him that she not done anything with him, he was trying to sort out in his head why the dream had been so vivid and he remembered every detail.

I probably won’t see you before I leave, she said despondently. So good bye.

He only hung up the phone and changed Chyna’s code on the door so she couldn’t get in.

Since that call, he either was at the office or sleeping in his car. To get a lot of frustration off his mind, he went over to the Laundromat and helped the employees out – lifting heavy bags of wet clothes and tossing them in piles or pulling sheets out, Parker felt good doing manual labor and it helped him get to sleep at night especially since the Laundromat operations went on twenty four hours a day.

After his bout with drinking, he swore off liquor.

He contacted his lawyer and was told that Chyna had asked him to draw up divorce papers. From their pre-nup, Chyna had only asked for her car, a mediocre amount to live on if he also still paid for her credit cards and vehicle expenses, which would not to exceed over two thousand a month and one salon visit a month.

From his perspective that seemed fine and Chyna knew the salon visit would automatically go on his accounts.

She’s been real nice considering her past dealings, the lawyer remarked.

She’s guilty. Parker remembered her quote. Generosity is the flower of justice.

From the conversation, he wrote Jaelen a quick email to not worry, but didn’t reply when Jaelen texted him to call him. He still wasn’t ready to listen to Jaelen.

His second day, he awoke to a dark figure leaning so close to his face, he automatically swung at it, but then found himself thrown off the couch, flat on his stomach, his face pressed against the floor and his arm twisted behind his back.

Onyx Heart had snuck in his building to pay him a visit and he was sure she just kicked his ass with only one hand.

If you tense I’ll take it as an action of protest, she said in a deathly threat.

I’m supposed to like getting my ass kick, he hissed.

Relax and I’ll let you go.

Reluctantly he did and instantly his arm was released. Getting up, he found his pants and dressed. She didn’t have her Trench on, but a long sleeve leather jacket, loose black pants and ankle high four-inch heeled leather boots. Her hair was in one big French braid down the back and as usual she wore no make up except the lipgloss on her full sensual lips.

Now you want to act like a gentleman? she asked skeptically. Yesterday morning you were splayed naked on that couch for the whole world to see.

Feeling very embarrassed, he asked, You were here?

She smirked. Oh yeah. And you were past three sheets to the wind. I could have had a marching band play in here and you wouldn’t have stirred. You can’t hold any liquor can you? Going over to his garbage, she put on a rubber glove and looked through it as if she were a forensic technician.

A horrible sense of relief filled him with the implications. Did we… Did we…?

Looking over her shoulder, Onyx looked at him desirously from head to toe, and then snorted in disgust, You wish.

    Onyx. he said with warning.

Standing up and throwing the gloves away, she said, You’ve been lied to and deceived enough, Parker. What’s that burning smell? She took a small leather case from her jacket pocket and opened it up. Getting a pair of tweezers, she knelt by the heater and peeled off some blue fabric seared to the side of the heater. What’s this?

I don’t know, he said impatiently, because he wanted to get to the matter at hand. Was someone else here?

Your wife drove up about three, she said deep in examination. This looks like it’s off a shoe. There’s a small amount of scorched rubber. You’ve got bedroom shoes around here you’ve been cooking?

I don’t wear bedroom shoes. Who the hell cares, Onyx?! he exclaimed. Is this information I need to pay for?

She tossed the piece of cloth in the garbage and then walked over to the couch and picked up the female coat. This isn’t your size.

    Answer my question, he ordered.

I love money and I’d do a lot for it, but torturing you is too much fun, Parker.

Didn’t you just say I’ve been through enough?

Oh you’ve been through something. There was humor in her voice. Bet’cha won’t pick up another bottle of liquor again. Tossing the coat back on the coach, she went over to a bag of clothing he’d bought yesterday and handed him a gold shirt.

The fact that she knew he needed a new shirt wasn’t what made him uncomfortable. It was the fact that she could read his mind and knew which one he was going to pick.

How did you know I was going to wear that?

As if it were obvious, she said, You were eyeing that tie a few seconds ago and I knew you only had three colors to choose from, but only one shirt to match with that tie and those pants. Just because you’re miserable on the inside, you still like to look nice on the outside.

And that lay the mystery behind this woman named Onyx Heart.

She went over to a make shift desk where he had set up the laptop he carried in his car. Typing something up, she reconnected his Wi-Fi line, which he’d been trying to figure out since late last night and had not used in a while. I’ve never met a man so damn dense when it came to women and sex. Not to say that you don’t know how to use the beautiful equipment God so eloquently gave you a lot of, but once I put the pieces together, I didn’t know what to think of you, Parker Mills. I couldn’t talk to Jaelen about you or he’d know I knew where you were. And I figured if you didn’t want him to know, since he wasn’t paying, I didn’t need to tell him.

    You’d charge your best friend?

Love don’t pay the bills. She shrugged indifferently. And that’s where you’re different too, Parker. You’re generous by nature, but shallow as well. Because of your looks you depend on so much of what others say, you can’t see what’s right in front of you. Glaring at him, I don’t know if I should be disgusted with you or should I pat you on the back."

Annoyed that he wasn’t going to get the information he desired from her, he said, Didn’t I pay you for your services? Why are you following me around?

I’m not done and I like to be thorough in my job, Parker Mills.

    Because I’m Jaelen’s friend?

No, because I like to fuck with people’s lives and you aren’t the rose you present yourself to be.

    I never said I was.

So the skeletons in your closet aren’t as bad as your wife’s or do you think your money should make that all go away?"

He put on his jacket seeing a glistening fury just under the surface that she was trying to contain. I didn’t pay you to open my closet.

Seems to me if a man’s trying to make a new family, he should make sure he’s taken care of past family issues.

There was no reason to even ask what she was referring to. A very cold feeling overcame him as he stared into the pitch-black pools that felt like they were drawing him in hatred.

Maybe you deserved to be screwed, Parker Mills. But I’m glad you got a screw so good you don’t even remember it. She smirked. No amount of money in the world is heavy enough to hold down shit because that just floats to the top. Walking up to him in a casual nature, she leaned in close to him. I’d also take a look at what’s behind me too. Sometimes answers are right there. We just have to open up our eyes to see them. With a wink, she added, As for that past shit you have lingering, I suggest you clean it up before I do the honors and wipe your ass in it. She flicked a different business card at him. That’s Mandingo. If that baby means anything to you, you better make sure she’s safe. I got better things to do, but he’s got all the time in the world.

You think someone might hurt Charisse?

I didn’t say that, but you’re dealing with Medusa’s daughters and since you ain’t turned to stone yet, it means that they are going to turn on each other. Evil like this usually does and I would say the one that’s always been picked on will be the worst to get it. Personally killing her would just save you all the hell that’s about to hit the fan, but since you didn’t pay me to do that–

And I should add she’s carrying my baby! he cut in.

Well, I suggest you do yourself a favor and take what that lawyer said to you as a worthy piece of advice. If she’s giving you the divorce, take the baby and run.

You’re listening on my phone too?

I need to know everything. She handed him a piece of paper. Your buddy Pascal will be arrested once his wounds heal from a Florida hospital in about seven months. By that time, he’d have finally called his tramp up here and let her know you know what’s going on. The oldest sister is clean and made sure that she has nothing to pin on. Used the money through humping him, but she’s a bad flavor if I ever saw one. Until then, you’ll be rid of the twins.

And what about Charisse? he questioned. What should I do with her?

She cut him a look of stupidity. Wake up and smell the damn coffee, Parker!

What the hell did all that mean?!’

He knew that even writing a blank check to her, Onyx wouldn’t give him any satisfaction to his burning question.

    ***

On his third day, he joined one of his drivers on a new route and worked until he couldn’t see straight. By the time he laid down, he had Charisse running through his mind all day and as he fell asleep, he knew that if he worked around her, he wouldn’t be able to control himself.

He didn’t want to jeopardize the baby with the stress he’d put on her and he didn’t want to create a horrible situation. Plus, deep down inside he wanted to be platonic with her.

Ethan came over the morning of the fourth day with a breakfast. Jaelen’s threatening to call the police if you don’t answer his calls.

The only reason Ethan had found him was because his wife, Nicole, shared ownership of the Laundromat next door where Parker was blowing off steam when he couldn’t sleep. That was where the breakfast had come from because Nicole was worried about Parker and had probably asked her husband to deliver the plate of food.

Jaelen hates the police since they laughed at him for walking into a precinct and telling them he was raped. Parker grabbed the food because for the first time in a while he really had his appetite back.

You’re welcome, Ethan chuckled. You’re living in your office? You really haven’t gone back home.

    Nope.

Damn, Parker, how long you plan on staying here?

I don’t know. For the next week.

Nic and I have a spare for a couple of weeks until we transform it for the baby, but I don’t plan on that until the custom furniture is finished. You could move there until the time being.

I’m fine, he said with a mouth full of food.

    You don’t look fine.

I don’t feel fine either, but I’m going to be.

What do you mean by that? Ethan rested on the couch.

I want to have serious sex with my sister-in-law.

I thought you already did that.

    Not that one. Her sister.

    You mean the crazy one?

    She’s not crazy.

Oh okay, Ethan said. And three stays in a crazy house was really a life vacation huh?

    You’re not funny.

I wasn’t trying to be, but Parker, I don’t mean to sound like Jaelen.

Which is why I’m not answering his calls, Parker said.

    But –

I don’t want to do it, Ethan! I really don’t and hell, it’s not my wife keeping me away from the house. It’s her! She’s there and the more I see her the more I want to touch her.

    Doesn’t she have–

He cut him off again. I know what she has and I keep telling myself that, but I … last time I was with her, I did and she had to be rushed to the hospital. The doctor said she’s sexual peaking and that isn’t good to tell a man when he hasn’t had proper sex in a very long time.

Parker, maybe you should check yourself in a facility.

I want to be friends with her!

Then be her friend, Parker. We’re men and we’re going to want sex. We all do and there’s nothing wrong with you for thinking that. Maybe she’s pretty and attractive, but if you want to stay platonic, just let her know what you want and she’ll understand when you may lose control sometime and just help you stay on track. Women are supposed to be the reasonable ones when it comes to sex, so she’ll definitely be reasonable because she doesn’t want to be touched anyway.

It made sense. Parker just needed to think exactly how he would be able to enjoy Charisse safely as friends. Being her boss would never do and he knew if Onyx suspected something he didn’t want to put Charisse in the position that would bring her harm because information she knew because of him.

His best bet would be to release her from her duty, but still get her to obligate herself to him as a friend.

Once the baby came, he’d have this sexual issue under control and then the baby would occupy his time completely.

First things first Parker, Ethan said after Parker told him of the plan. Let’s get this shit together around here. Your office looks like shit.

Parker breathed a sigh of relief because he knew what he had decided would be reasonable and hopefully on the night he picked up Charisse, she’d have an answer for him about her long term decision with him.

    Chapter 29

Chyna had asked Kimberly to come over when Charisse really didn’t want to be bothered with her sister and Chyna was tired of Charisse’s catty attitude.

Having Kimberly around was pleasant and even when Charisse did say something catty; Kimberly either ignored it or said something ridiculously silly. It was hard trying to keep a sour disposition and now she understood why Jaelen kept her around. It was next to impossible to get angry with her.

No woman! Charisse snapped when Kimberly tried to sneak in convincing her to wear a nice white shirt. It is ridiculously impossible to make angry.

If I can survive sourpuss Jaelen Gates then I can certainly survive your catty tongue, Charisse. Maybe that should be your nickname.

I’ve never had a nickname before, Charisse suddenly realized then cursed under her breath at Kimberly’s slick skills of making
