It was early in the morning when the big earthquake hit. Leo and Pat woke up in their sleeping pads, laid out in the middle of a desert. The earthquake that shook the land was unlike anything they had experienced. As the quake thundered and roared, even the giant volcano seemed to explode, streaming out thick grey ash in a tall elongated shape.

Look at that huge cloud! said Pat, pointing to the cloud of volcanic ash.

Hurry, we don’t have much time. We have to find a safe place to hide before the aftershocks start, Leo said.
