After arriving home, Magda and her father were tired.
She had accompanied her father to the hospital for regular checkups. The walk had been long and tiresome under a scotching midday summer sun.
For the past two years her father had a mysterious illness that showed no sign of healing. They were returning from yet another check up session at the Mocuba District Rural Hospital.
Exhausted and out of breath, she rushed inside the house and brought out her father’s chair and set it in the shade under the mango tree in front of the house. Her father approached and painfully sat, his bones cracking. She returned inside the house again and brought from the refrigerator a jug full of cold water and two tall glasses and served water to her father in one and herself in the other. As the cool water went down through their dry throats, they felt their bodies revived. They had been feeling like a burning house.
Her mother was busy in the kitchen cooking. When she saw them coming, she went out to meet them and kneeled on the side of her husband and asked him how he was feeling. She was a woman of noble character who respected her husband and was deeply touched by his illness. She had just returned from selling sandwiches in the market to support her family. Magda had taken to herself the responsibility to accompany her father to doctors and make sure he took his medicines.
Magda was a twenty one years old beautiful girl. She was full of life and ambition like her father had been before the strange illness glued him to
