Scene One
Amplified sound of coffee percolating, followed by K.T. Oslin’s You Call Everybody Darlin
plays throughout the theatre. Lights up on a well-kept bungalow. It’s an early Saturday morning. SALLY SPICER---female, forties---comes out of the kitchen, wearing a brand new outfit and sipping from a coffee cup. She performs a private, little dance to the music. Then there’s a knock at the door. She turns the music down and crosses to a mirror, taking one last look at her reflection. She’s good to go. SALLY opens the door. CLAYTON ABLAZE---male, thirties---stands in the doorway.
SALLY: Hey.
CLAYTON: Hey.
SALLY: How’s it goin?
CLAYTON: It’s goin, but I don’t know how.
SALLY: Well, come on in. I’ve got a fresh pot of coffee in the kitchen. Want some?
CLAYTON: Yeah. Sure. Sounds good.
CLAYTON enters. SALLY shuts the door behind him.
SALLY: Black, or do you put stuff in yours?
CLAYTON: Just the bean, baby. Just the bean.
SALLY: You got it. Comin right up. Go ahead and make yourself at home.
SALLY goes to the kitchen. CLAYTON takes in the living room. In the background, K.T. Oslin’s You Call Everybody Darlin
