About this ebook
Much has been said and written about employee management but not as much about law firms and its work culture. This book is not designed to quote statistics nor is it an attempt to offer tried and true clichés on getting the best out of your employees. We won’t fill space with quotes from other reputable books and authors on today’s employees. This is about our philosophy for “employee development”. Notice we did not say “employee management”. We said DEVELOPMENT! We have implemented it and made it work. We have watched it work beyond even our wildest imaginations.
This book is written about law firms and employees, how the culture has changed and how to create high performance employees within a high performance law firm. No more. No Less.
While our company's focus is on law firms, we have worked with other service professionals and have found they all face the same problem of creating employees who have compassion and caring for their clients but who can also deliver a very high quality, self-regulating and self-governing work environment. Unfortunately, the practices that do it are few and far between.
David and Cheryl
Cheryl has worked in every position in a law firm except that of a lawyer. Those who know her will tell you she is the visionary; that person who can see what others don’t see. During her forty five years of law firm administration and management, she began to develop a concept for administration that placed the growth and development of law firms into which she calls “best business practices.” She believes that you must develop personal goals and then make your professional goals support the personal side of life. Her past fifteen years have been in coaching and mentoring lawyers and law firms as well as other practices or businesses through a practical theory of application of the skills she learned over her career. Her high energy coupled with a theory that you can accomplish anything with a strong enough desire to succeed makes her a true catalyst to those in need of help. Dave spent 30 years with IBM as a project manager. Following his retirement, he served as a private consultant to Fortune 500 companies including Nortel and Blue Cross & Blue Shield. He was a former ISO auditor and Malcolm Baldrige examiner (www.nist.gov/baldrige). Dave’s passion for strategic planning coupled with measurable performances through quality assurance benchmarks has helped create sound businesses and practices. IBM brought him up through the ranks and taught him how to manage people. He took these theories and implemented them into the Catalyst Way Philosophy. Now law firms benefit from his view through the eyes of an experienced and successful corporate management level individual.
