About this ebook
Laughter is a skill. Do you practice?
Promise was born laughing. Instead of crying when she was hungry, needed changing or a cuddle, she laughed. Growing up with her grandmother in a deserted by parents village, she practised her special skill every day by helping others find their laughter. When her parents return to take her back, away from her village, to another country, Promise has to find the origin of laughter in order to save the world, her world.

LAUGHTER MAKES LIFE FUN
Promise laughed in the womb instead of kicking and she also came into to the world laughing. Her mum said it had made her sick, but her grandmother, Magic, who had received her from her mother’s womb told her, I’ve loved listening to you and now when I can hear your beautiful properly, I feel honoured that you picked me as your grandmother.
Promise fell in love with Magic at first sight and as she continued to communicate through laughter in the outside world, Magic became her main ally and interpreter. Magic was the only one who understood her. Promise laughed when most babies would cry. She laughed when she was hungry. She laughed when she needed changing. She laughed when she wanted a cuddle. She had many different laughs and each one told a different story. Her mother got a headache from her constant laughing and would have preferred crying she said to friends because she thought like most adults that babies couldn’t understand. Magic loved the sound of her laugher and Promise laughed for her.
Magic learnt quickly to interpret Promise’s many sounds of laughter and also to laugh like her. Magic allowed her to practice and perfect her laughter and never told her to be quiet like her parents often did before they left the village. She was still a baby when the parents decided to seek their fortune somewhere else, somewhere far away. You’ll stay here with Magic, but we’ll be back for you when we have found what we’re looking for.
She didn’t cry as they left, she had Magic and that was good enough for her. Their village quickly emptied out of parents. Their village were only one of many villages in a country lacking life essentialities like running water, flushing toilets, proper hygiene facilities, heat in the winter, schooling, and sometimes when the crop failed, enough food. Parents were fed up scarcely surviving and prepared to pay the price of a child or two in order to find something else.
You’re an invaluable treasure,
Magic always lifted her higher. She didn’t miss her parents. Magic was everything
