Chapter 1 –
It was another cold night and the sun had set quite quickly that evening. There wasn’t much to do for Beatrice and so she contemplated moving as it was heavily populated with people in the city.
Beatrice had just moved from the city as the fast pace was proving a bit too much for her.
She arrived with nothing more than just some bags, loose change and some rags.
Beatrice was staying at the convent and even though she wasn’t a nun that wouldn’t stop her from dreaming about it wondering what her life would be like if she became a fully accepted nun.
Beatrice would sometimes observe the habits that the nuns wore and at times she would get ready in one as she carefully put the scapular over her and wrapped the veil over her head.
Beatrice felt so much comfort just trying on the habit and so for her she could never imagine what it would be like if her dream of becoming a fully accepted nun was to happen.
For now though she knew she was on the right path as she was in the convent house and learning about what life was really like for the nuns in the house.
Beatrice came to appreciate the company she had around her from the real nuns as she didn’t have any company when she lived in the city and so the move proved to be better for her at first as she was surrounded by different nuns and wasn’t short of seeing people as this meant a lot to her. The question is would this be enough for the real nuns in the house and if not what would happen to cause this.
At first when Beatrice arrived at the convent she knew no one, her life was empty and even though this was the case she was sadly not welcomed by some of the nuns.
Even though she felt alone at first this didn’t stop her from offering the love that she had in her heart to all of the nuns as just being in their presence meant the world to Beatrice.
There was one nun who tested the heart and character of Beatrice when she was there and this nun’s name was Alice Rootgar.
Alice Rootgar was the lead nun and when Beatrice first arrived on the doorstep that evening she gave her a deep stare penetrating the very soul of Beatrice with her deep green eyes.
From the first night Beatrice arrived Alice answered the door and the weather wasn’t the only thing contributing to the cold as the reception received was as well.
You over there, what are you doing here?
Are you speaking to me
said Beatrice in a soft voice
Who invited you here, you don’t look like one of us
Well. I’m not at the moment but I’m hoping to be
Alice looked Beatrice up and down making Beatrice feel tiny inside.
How could someone like you be one of us, we have rules and the strictest of conducts that one should adhere to if they wish to be known among our nun group.
I am in need madam and I’m sure you can see that my clothing is slightly out of place and torn. I have nowhere else to go. I am cold and hungry
Don’t you let her in Alice said one of the other nuns. She doesn’t look like she could become one of us, she looks like rags with no riches or class
Beatrice literally had nowhere to go and so in an attempt to show the nuns just how desperate she was she dropped down to her knees and begged
