Introduction
Nothing can steal pleasure and create hard feelings or bad memories about your special day than accidental wedding etiquette faux pas. For most people, a wedding is one of the most important and memorable days of their entire life. And while some complications and situations cannot be foreseen, planned for, or avoided, there are many problematic areas of wedding etiquette that you can solve or prevent if you just have the information needed to do so.
This guide is intended to lay out some aspects of wedding etiquette that are the most important to handle correctly both for your own sake and for the sake of your loved ones who will be involved. The more etiquette mistakes you can avoid, the more everyone will enjoy celebrating the launch of your marriage with you.
Now, let’s get started!
Chapter 1: Etiquette for Financial Responsibilities
The financial responsibilities that come with a wedding are often a great source of tension for anyone closely connected to the wedding – not just the bride and groom. But while the potential for financial drama is high, the risk and severity of problems between those involved is greatly limited simply through respecting the current etiquette guidelines that are common today.
Modern-day wedding budgets plans have changed significantly just in the last couple of decades. The changes in financial etiquette guidelines might be unfamiliar or even unacceptable by older generations in both families.
If there are those who do not agree with modern financial etiquette, it is important for you to choose your battles
and determine which things are worth the stress and conflict to argue about, and which areas or people are too stressful to negotiate with. If possible, it is most helpful to have a face-to-face meeting between you and both sides of the families in order to have a budget that all parties are in agreement with from the very beginning.
It is becoming more popular for the bride and groom to be responsible for the costs incurred with your own wedding which seems only fair – especially if you want a lavish wedding. You may prefer to pay for most or all of the wedding expenses yourselves in order to create the wedding you have envisioned without burdening your parents with the cost of various ‘luxuries or having to get expenses
approved" by those paying for them.
