About this ebook

Significance

Bullying is an extremely alarming problem in virtually every school in every city in the world. “Bully Bully” is a family rated story that targets young students, and tackles bullying, not from the standpoint of catching and punishing, but rather with the goal of helping to change the aggressive behavior at an early age.

"Bully Bully" illuminates the road that bullies are travelling, by presenting findings and statistics from many academic studies. Thus enlightened, bullies are not simply exposed, emotionally embarrassed, and laden with guilt. They are intellectually informed as to the almost unavoidable harmful outcome to the bully, and to the victims.

All the statistics are stacked against the bully; at home, at school, and in the workplace. "Bully Bully" considers the probability of a criminal record and its consequences. It also examines the effect of bullying on relationships, in the family and in the community. It highlights the inevitable outcome of the loss of trust and respect, and the extreme difficulty in overcoming the long-term stigma associated with bullying.

While “Bully Bully” will have captivating appeal to the youth of today, it will also be received enthusiastically by parents, teachers and community leaders. The film addresses a subject of concern for governments and judiciaries everywhere. It provides educational and social benefits as well as exciting family entertainment for young and old alike. It contains particularly valuable substance on the subject of bullying, sufficient to form the foundation for classroom analysis and discussion, as part of the curriculum requirement of any school. On this basis alone its potential appeal and societal value could be very important to every community.

Logline

In responding to an outbreak of bullying serious enough to require police intervention, a high school senior (given to episodes of fantasy) ends up educating the teachers and the school board.

Synopsis

Tracey leads a team of high school students preparing a school project on “Bullying”, as an ongoing series of bullying incidents occur on the school bus, in the school hallways, in the schoolyard, and in the city streets. Headline bullying assaults lead to a police raid on the high school and the arrest of several students.

A parallel drama unfolds in the form of Tracey’s ongoing, but intermittent dream of a fantasy planet threatened by the hostile crew of a foreign spaceship. Will it be necessary to resort to violence in order to maintain security? What alternative solution would be practical and effective? Can conflict be successfully overcome without hostility? Excitement peaks when suddenly the planet is threatened with destruction, and the hostile crew is confronted with the decision of putting their own lives in harms way, in order to save their new found friends.

Intertwined in the plot is a love story between a member of the crew, and a young lady on the planet.

The script includes two original songs.

On a beautiful sunny day, TRACEY, a tall, slim stylishly dressed grade 11 student at Central High is spending a normal day shopping with her mother and sister, MELANIE.

EXT – SHOPPING MALL – PARKING LOT

TRACEY, her mother and sister are loading groceries into the trunk and back seat of the car.

TRACEY opens a package of cookies, and starts munching on one, while MELANIE talks to a puppy poking its head out the window of the car beside them.

    TRACEY

    I love these cookies.

    MELANIE

(to dog in the next car)

Are you the boss of this car...

    are you... are you...

    (Dog barks and whimpers)

    TRACEY

I think you've found your intellectual match, MELANIE

    MOTHER

    Not nice...

    TRACEY

    I couldn't resist.

    MELANIE

    TRACEY, Just look at her...

    She's so cute...

MELANIE gets in the back seat with the groceries, and tracey gets in the front. They buckle up, and MOTHER starts driving home.

    DISSOLVE TO

EXT – CITY INTERSECTION – IN CAR - NEAR PARK

There is heavy traffic as they stop at a 4-way stop sign and proceed along Riverside Drive, a winding road in front of Greenwood Park.

About 200 feet away, in the park, TRACEY suddenly sees a group of boys swarming two other boys. One of the thugs hits another boy with a baseball bat.

    TRACEY immediately responds.

    TRACEY

MOTHER, stop the car right here. Turn on the emergency flashers and lean on the horn.

MELANIE, call 911 and tell them there's trouble at Greenwood Park.

    (The horn is blaring)

TRACEY jumps out of the car, and runs about 30 feet into the park, and stops.

    (The horn is blaring)

MOTHER is still blasting the horn, as from a very safe distance, TRACEY cups her hands to her mouth.

    (The horn is blaring)

    TRACEY

The police are on their way!

The attention of the thugs is diverted, as they look up to see the source of the commotion.

They look down the street, and see a group of adults and kids coming their way across the park.

    TRACEY

    We called 911!

The thugs now look up the street, and see two scrapping big men running their way, and several cars have stopped.

Then the thugs quickly break into a mad dash, and scatter like scared rabbits across the park to the tree line, and out of sight.

    TRACEY

    (Under her breath)

    Good call!

    You'd better run!

    DISSOLVE TO

Medics are loading one boy into an ambulance, and treating the other boy for some minor injuries.

    OFFICER

    (Speaking to TRACEY)

We've got the K9 unit out there tracking them.

    That was quick thinking...

    and a super fast response.

    TRACEY

I really didn't know what else to do.

    OFFICER

You did all the right things...

    And from a safe distance...

    We've had several similar incidents...

And we have a pretty good idea who these guys are.

They're all gang members, on both sides.

We believe two of them are the main instigators, and the rest are just followers...

But the followers are in just as much trouble as the instigators.

    TRACEY

I hope that boy is going to be alright.

    OFFICER

It doesn't look too serious, but we'll have him checked out at the hospital.

We'd like to get a brief statement from you and your mother about what you saw and what you did, for our records...

    TRACEY

    Of course.
