      Lydia’s chewed fingers worried at the gold-plated crucifix clasped around her neck. Her eyes, dry from the hot grit of many sleepless nights, darted around the opulent suites of her new psychiatrist, but the pastel walls and subtle art prints did little to calm her nerves. She took a deep breath, cleared her throat and began.

      I never had any luck with guys. she said. My first boyfriend ran off with my cousin Joey to set up a gay Ashram in California, and then-

      A loud slap! followed by the howl of a pained hyena startled her into silence.

      She hated it when Jake laughed.

      Nostrils flared in anger, she turned towards her constant companion, whose rotund body quivered with laughter and shook the leather sofa they shared like an oversized jelly.
