Hi! My name is Michael Arnold. I live in the small, boring town of Gastonia, North Carolina, located fifteen minutes from Charlotte, North Carolina. There is more excitement in Charlotte, so I cannot complain about my boring town of Gastonia, right? I assist my mother, who is blind and has been blind all of her life. However, for some odd reason, she helps me just as much as I help her. My mother would often say: "Hi Michael! I cooked chicken and I made sure I cooked enough for you!" "Thanks mom!" I would reply.I love writing. I have been writing since 2004. I'm still learning how to become a better writer daily. Stephen King is my favorite author, although I have never written any horror short stories. I enjoy reading his work because he knows how to tell a story.I chose “Smashwords” because I believe Mark Coker has provided an opportunity for unknown authors to post books online. This is absolutely splendid! I have posted a few books online. Please read them when you have the time. My promise is that you would not regret that decision.I love to read and write. Fortunately, I have a few books to share. I do it because of the love I have for writing. “Smashwords” has provided the opportunity to share what began as “sketchy” thoughts, to the development of a complete short story or novel for your enjoyment. Thanks to all who have taken the time to view this page, download my samples, books, and short stories .

Galvin forced himself up to his feet and out of Zion’s arms with a yell of enthusiasm at what had just taken place inside the compound. Although explosions still rocked the building and there were flaming fires everywhere, Zion and Galvin would survive. Standing side by side, they looked on from afar in amazement, realizing that they barely escaped with their lives.

It’s done, he’s dead now. The war between me and my brother is finally over! Galvin exclaimed, his voice loud and triumphant across the horizon.

Zion held her head down, remembering how The Runner—Jason Vaughn—had killed her parents in cold blood on her Planet Scarcity, right in front of her. He killed them because they both rejected his efforts that force them into the plane which would carry them to their doom on First World. The hurt of this was ripping her apart from the inside out.

Now with Jason Vaughn and Dr. Lucid dead, Galvin continued, First World can live in eternal peace now and forever more never to be threatened with him or any other evil that dares to show their ugly face here on First World. Thanks for your help, Zion. I couldn’t have done any of this without you." Zion forced a smile, although she realized the difficulties in moving forward without her people, and her planet.

Galvin noticed Zion’s sorrow, took her hands and peered into her steel gray eyes that started forming tears. Things will be fine. Your people may be gone, but if you trust me, I will take you to Iron City, where you can live freely and in peace forever.

Zion didn’t say a word but she trusted Galvin. How could she not? He had been willing to kill his own brother to do the right thing. She smiled, but this time it was a smile of liberation.

I could kill you for this, but instead I will make you live with the consequences of your decision. You have scorned everything I have given you, so you will lose it all. My hand will mark you with death, and you will be ceaselessly beaten until your next breath becomes your last. The time has come, Eisenhower. Even as I speak from my place of darkness and isolation, the killers that thirst and hunger for the mark of the damned are as close to you as death is to the grave. Judgment for you is now at hand.

Yellow eyes opened suddenly to the scores of damning words rambling within an ambiguous mind from a world of dreams. Bones ached from fallen arctic water that leaked through a torn roof and penetrated a decrepit body inside a dark black cloak. Chest and muscle burned with excruciating pain. Bruno Eisenhower had not died. He was alive. He was alive in the pit as he woke, fully conscious of his predicament. He surveyed his body slowly and saw ragged ligament and tendon through two gaping hole in the middle of his chest.

He got to his feet, first wobbly and then managing to stumble outside of the pit before falling back down in a cloud of cold and fog. He screamed as the two gunshot wounds throbbed in almost unbearable anguish.

From the east, where Eisenhower sat in the cold puddle that had accumulated on the iron ground, sounds of mad dashing passed incessantly through his ears.

I saw one, maybe two, at least two, I think, but I know there are more. There has to be more out there. His mind sprawling, he entertained juggling thoughts, the one pertaining to death making him grit his teeth.

I have to get up. I have to get to my feet or else I will die. I know something out here, he mumbled, keeping an eye on
