Chapter 1
Ma’am?
the flight attendant asked a second time.
I’m sorry. What?
Addison answered, just realizing that the flight attendant was speaking to her.
I asked if you’d like a beverage,
the flight attendant repeated, before adding, Fear of flying?
No,
Addison answered with an embarrassed laugh. I was just lost in the memories of my past. I’m heading to my twentieth high school reunion,
she explained.
The flight attendant made a comment about how Addison looked far too young to be going to a twentieth reunion before filling her drink order.
You’re sweet.
Addison couldn’t tell if the flight attendant was flirting with her or just being friendly. She kind-of figured he was gay, but it was still nice to be told how young she looked. Most people she met couldn’t believe she was thirty-eight with a young son. She still had the same porcelain complexion and curvy, auburn hair but she had finally lost all her baby fat. Her figure was less plump and more thin and firm than it was twenty years ago. She was in better shape and more youthful looking than the day she graduated, she thought, and her best friend, Tabitha, agreed.
Both Addison and Tabitha lived in Atlanta, Georgia and were flying in for the reunion. Although the reunion was in Mobile, Alabama, the girls were flying into Biloxi, Mississippi. Addison received a free flight and stay offer from one of the casinos and thought taking the offer would save money on a hotel and make the reunion more of a vacation. Their high school was only a forty-five minute drive away which wasn’t a huge inconvenience since it took that long to get anywhere in Atlanta.
Wake up,
Addison said as she nudged Tabitha. We’re going to be landing soon.
She didn’t know how her friend did it, but Tabitha could fall asleep instantly on a plane. Even with the flight being less than an hour, Tabitha still managed to get in a nice nap. Five minutes after boarding, she had her head back and mouth open, snoring loudly. It used to embarrass Addison, but she was used to it now.
Being a nurse, and single mom to a five-year-old son, she didn’t have enough time to spend with Tabitha. This vacation was exactly what both women needed…some rest and relaxation, and a lot of girl bonding time.
While they were in Biloxi, besides attending the reunion events, Tabitha would be visiting with her twin brother, Robert. The girls still planned to fit in a spa day, complete with facials, massages and seaweed wraps.
Now that the plane was approaching the small airport in Biloxi, Addison was getting more and more nervous. Images of her high school crush came into her mind.
She wondered if Brooklyn would be there. She was unable to find a Facebook page for him, but heard he had become a cop. He was so perfect back in high school, though, that Addison didn’t see any way he could’ve gotten more handsome or desirable.
Brooklyn, which was his real name though most people assumed it was a nickname, was the captain of the school’s baseball team, as well as the yearbook editor. Twenty years ago, he was almost six feet tall, with broad shoulders, a trim waist, short brown hair, and the most amazing eyes Addison had ever seen. Even more spectacular than his eyes, though, was Brooklyn’s voice. They had Advanced Chorus together, and Addison could get lost listening to Brooklyn sing with his smooth and tender, tenor voice. Somehow, his singing made Brooklyn seem more sensitive. That mixed with his strong alpha presence made Addison unable to resist him.
She remembered sitting in front of him in their chorus class, wearing her favorite black, pleated skirt. Brooklyn would play with the zipper, just barely unzipping the skirt as Addison sat there both shocked and excited. She would turn around and tell him to stop, but secretly she loved every minute of it.
She wrote him a note once, letting him know how she felt about him, but
