About this ebook

He watched her, and he did not want to admit how foolish he felt playing this game. Since the start of the dare he felt strange unseen presence around them and he wanted to quit, but he would not give in. He wanted to be the victor this time even if it meant he would be injured or worse.

The teenagers thought the storm was wicked, and the night eerie, they did not know what their future held, and their worst opponent was waiting for them in the shadows.

The fierce wind came as a homing missile and in one fell gusty swoop like a ninja dived underneath her feet and caused her to lose balance Shelly lost her grip on the iron staircase railing and felt her body being lifted off the fire escape. She was scrambling to grasp anything that would keep her grounded. She swore she would not be this reckless in the next game.

She felt someone, her brother gripping her ankle, almost twisted to a breaking point to pull her back down to the iron platform.

The wind became tight like a steel rope and wrapped around her like a net to pull her taunt and up to go with it, and as if alive, it held her prisoner and would let release her.

Her twin pulled at her legs, and she felt she would split in two. The yanking of her lower and upper body straining her bones to the point of shattering.

She did not realize how strong her bony skeleton brother was. She thought “He must be working out in secret.” Relieved he was her rescuer and felt reassured that she would live another day.

    Prologue

An Old Cherokee told his grandson, My son, there is a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy and truth.

The boy thought about it, and asked,

    Grandfather, which wolf wins?

The old man quietly replied, The one you feed.

    Chapter One

The characters, Shelly and Michael, were young, invincible and daring competitive fraternal twins, sister and her brother. Shelly was 5’8’ has long red flaming hair and emerald eyes. Michael was 6’0". 170 pounds, black raven hair, and hazel eyes. They were of Gypsy, Greek and Indian heritage that dated back to the beginning of creation. They were a rumor to be of the stock of the first settlers and descendants of the Israeli ethnic groups who roamed the earth in the time of the rise of the Messiah.

The twins live in New York City, in the borough of the Bronx. The twins predestined to become the yin and yang of the universe, the evil and bad, and light and dark. They were born as the warriors who would be called to defend the human race. Darkness came to overtake and rule the earth. And light called forth to become the protectors in the time of chaos which was coming on the horizon, they did not know about their destinies. They were about to become confronted with the truth of their existence.

On this one particular windy thunderous night, a fierce hurricane was threatening the city. It was so fierce that the mayor and his council declared a state emergency, everything closed down, and, everyone ordered to stay off the streets.

Shelly and Michael restless as weather alerts were on high warning for the last 48 hours, everyone ordered to stay inside. They missed the freedom of hanging out with their friends. They decided to past the time until the storm ended, to dare one another into a stupid contest.

They challenged one another, to drink a few beers, climb outside the kitchen window on to the emergency iron fire escape in the fierce winds and rains to stand on their apartment fire escape and dare one another not let go of the railing as the winds were gushing and blowing wildly. The winds were fiercely cycling like a funnel, trapped in the back alley, building up speed. They were in the midst of it. As Mother Nature whipped around, and into them, they felt the powerful winds taunting them, trying to pull them free from the iron bars. They were being whipped around like rag dolls. They hung on the railing of the fire escape with their lives. Enjoying the exhilarating freedom, yet fearful of the consequences. Too buzzed to realize it was a serious and dangerous game they were playing.

When the winds calm down for a moment, they ran back into the shelter of a window box which held a stone gargoyle one time and now vacant. Hiding, laughing hilariously, half crouching and partial protected in the enclosure of the cement window box built deep into the apartment building infrastructure. They pop in and out testing Mother Nature in a contest, to prove who was the bravest and who would survive the longest outside in the wicked storm and not run back completely inside the apartment.

The twins were competitive, always challenging each other’s from day one when they learn to walk, run and now played dangerous games. They hang on watched in awe and fear as the winds whip and tore everything free from the structures surrounding them.

They observed the swinging stop lights and signs and everything which was being broken from their attachments and were flying wildly in the skies and down the streets. Shelly observed many items flew by. She points them out to Michael. They watched as thing flew by coming from strangers’ back yards, holiday’s decorations and children toys, papers, clothing and larger items and so much more.

It was scary as the speed and velocity of the winds picked up and tried to force both of them off the fire escape. They each held on the escape bars with a tight white knuckle grip, closing their hands tighter around the rail and held on harder to the iron stakes as the winds whipped them around like toy soldiers being knocked down by a child playing with a rolling object.

The winds were whipping around them. They felt the fury and intensity of the power of the hurricane, surged through their bodies. It was electrifying as the lightning struck close objects. The vibrations tingled their being. Their hair was flying uncontrolled into their eyes. Shelly was trying to hold on and uses one hand to brush the wild hair out of her mouth, she sputters to release the hair from her lips.

It felt uncomfortable, and she thought it was ironic here she was plaster to a fire escape by drenching rain and cold winds worrying about the feeling of hair in her mouth and not afraid of being grab and flung into the alley below, smash hard into the wet cement down below.

Her brother Michael watched her grip the fire escape iron bars. He did not want to admit how foolish he felt playing this game. Since the start of the dare he felt strange unseen presence around them and he wanted to quit, but he would not give in. He wanted to be the victor this time even if it meant he would be injured or worse. The teenagers thought the storm was
