It was in the early morning, when a beautiful baby girl was born. A girl who would have brought sunshine and great happiness to those who were lucky enough to get to know her. Kevin and Sue McFarland had always wanted to have a child and after being married for ten years, God finally granted their wish.

Both parents were very proud as they saw their baby daughter sleeping peacefully among other babies. On seeing her sleeping in her crib, like an angel sent from heaven, both parents decided to call her Angel. However, as days passed by and weeks became months, the little child unfortunately fell seriously ill and a week after her third birthday, she fell in a coma and thus was taken urgently to the hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. McFarland, said the doctor sadly, as he approached them.

Doctor, said Kevin worriedly as he stood up, how is she? How's our little one?

I'm sorry but she is very weak. Her heart beat is decreasing and she might never wake up again!

No! cried Sue desperately. Please not my baby! Please doctor, help her! Please get her back to us!

I'm sorry Mrs. McFarland, said the doctor sadly, as he took their hands in his, unfortunately, there is nothing else we can do. We only have to wait and leave everything in God's hands. If you want, you can go near her now!

Thanks, said both parents as they walked towards their child's room.

That night, both parents didn’t have the courage to leave the child alone, afraid of being taken away from them. ‘God,’ prayed Sue desperately, ‘please, don't take away my baby. I know that angels should be up there in heaven near You, but please leave her here with us. You know how much we dreamt for this child and how much she filled our lives with love, joy, and happiness!’

Days passed by and after a whole week of great tension, the little child finally opened her eyes. Therefore, after having recovered completely, Angel was finally able to go home with her parents. From that day, both Kevin and Sue became over protective towards their little child, afraid that she would be taken away from them.

As months became years and time passed by, the little child grew up and finally from a very sweet young girl, she was transformed to a very beautiful young woman. She had many friends at school and at the age of sixteen, like other youths of her age, Angel had her first taste of love. It was in high school when she met Alexander. They were always together and Angel hoped that this might be the same love her parents always shared. A year passed by, but one day, she noticed that Alexander was changing a lot. Alex, said she one day, is something wrong?

Why? he asked.

I don't know why but lately you've been acting strange, it's as if your thoughts are somewhere else!

It's just that my father got promoted and there's a chance that we might have to leave Scotland for good, said Alexander sadly on looking at her.

What? asked she surprised.

I'm sorry Angel, I tried to convince my father to leave me here with grandma, but he said that my place is with them! I really wish to stay here with you, but I can’t!

What if your grandparents talk to him and offer to have you living with them? asked she on looking at him.

It’s useless, they already tried to convince him, but it was all in vain. Unfortunately, when father decides something, it’s very hard to make him change his mind.

But, what about us? asked she sadly. What is to become of us?

I'm sorry Angel but there's nothing else I can do! said Alexander as he took her hands in hers, I have to go!

A week passed by and finally, the day of Alexander's departure came. That day, both lovers were very sad. Promise to write, cried she on hugging him.

I will my love! said he on wiping off her tears.

Suddenly his father walked towards them, come Alexander, it's time to go! Good bye Angel!

Good bye sir and hope that you will have a safe journey! said she sadly, on looking at the man who was the main cause of their separation.

Well, said she on looking towards her beloved, good bye Alexander and I hope that you will be happy with your new life in New York!

Angel, said Alexander sadly, as he took her hands in his, maybe, you ... I ...

Maybe what? asked she hopefully on looking at him.

What if you wait for me? I am only asking for one year, time enough to pass my eighteenth birthday! Then, father will have to accept my decisions.

But one year is too long! cried she bitterly.

You know how much I care for you, how much I love you, and how much you mean to me! said he on taking her hands in his. Please Angel, wait for me!

Please ... said Alexander hopefully as his father suddenly pushed him towards the entrance gate, please, wait for me!

Yes, cried Angel bitterly as she ran towards him, I promise to wait for you my love! said she on losing herself in his arms, knowing that this might be their last time together. Because deep down, she felt as if she will never see him again, as if he will never be able to return to her.

In the meantime, Alexander was very sad, as the plane took off. Alexander, I'm sure that you will forget her in New York! said his father as he went near him.
