Man, you need a break!

That was one of my 'lab partners', one Shelton Grimes, who, if things went according to his best wishes, would finish the semester with an iffy C.

Me, on the other hand, Brian Asley, was on full scholarship. I had honors in high school. If you looked up 'geek' in the dictionary you’d see an amazing picture of me.

The 'break' that Shel was referring too was the legendary spring break wherein a sizable portion of America's youth migrated to some section of the coast line for a week's bacchanalia. I was a junior and so far had managed to avoid the trip. My chemical engineering degree was important to me, and now, with a 4.0 average, my advisor was banging on me to stay on for at least a master's. A Ph.D. was being hinted at. And my last summer's internship had me lined up for a promising slot at a major R&D firm
